Zaragoza Killing Station – podencos need saving – please help
The hunting season is now over and hunters are getting rid of their ‘4-footed tools’!
These are the Perricos to be slaughtered in a few days at the Zaragoza perrera. This is the appeal I received‘We are only two volunteers who have many dogs in kennels which we pay the fees and we can’t take any more dogs. We have all this responsibility on our shoulders and we desperately need adopters for the dogs in our care, and more so we need special people who can rescue these young podencos before they are sacrificed in a few days.

End of hunting season in Spain – galgueros dump their dogs en masse!!
I can’t keep up with it all on Galgo News, just too much to post; galgos and podencos abandoned throughout winter, refuges full to bursting, embalming galgos rears its ugly head again – more in another post – and now galgueros dumping their dogs at the refuges and shelters. Yet more galgos dumped in the perreras, and now cutting microchips out of the dogs before dumping. How do the volunteers cope?
Now I’ll tell you about a man who could make a change but hasn’t.

Extremadura hunters – Fepaex says ‘take responsibility for your dogs!’
Podencos and galgos both suffer unimagineable cruelty at the hands of the Spanish hunters and gitanos – Spanish gypsies. Most publicity comes from the regions of Andalucia and Murcia, as well as the Spanish Islands Ibiza and the Canary Islands. However, the Spanish interior including the region of Extremadura is also hell on earth for galgos and podencos. Mairena perrera – more cheap accommodation in Spain!
The Mairena perrera rears its ugly head again. Podencos and galgos amongst the poor souls dumped there to be killed, even a puppy, also a black and white spaniel; living in horrendous conditions. It’s cold, wet, dirty – they are starving – why feed a dog when it’s going to be killed! Cry for these poor souls. If any one can help save them from a miserable death.

CAN YOU HELP SAVE THESE GALGOS, PLEASE?
These galgos are in a shanty town in Sevilla. For two years Inmaculada has been rehoming them little by little. She doesn’t have photos of them all as the people become very angry and won’t allow her in the place. There were eight females, seven males and six mixed breed.

Murcia perrera – Baas Galgo save 6 galgos from death row
Good news for 6 galgos which were on death row in the municipal perrera in Murcia. Baas Galgo to the rescue. Here’s a link to the story in Spanish; English translation below.
‘Galgos are key to the success of a hunt, but many of them are killed or abandoned by their owners when hunting season ends. Rescue Associations claim that animals have become a disposable tool. Many were hung from a tree after a hunt, others are thrown into a well or wounded by a shot as punishment if the hunt has not been successful, and only the best are left in the field.

The Service for the Protection of Nature of the Guardia Civil (Seprona) has rescued 24 dogs from a rural property in Parla that were in “very poor sanitary conditions, ” accusing the owner of the animals for falsifying the health files and vaccinated illegally.

Cruel Spain – galgos tied up in caves to starve to death – shame on Spain

Last week members of the Protective went to check the call of some youths who made a grisly discovery, several bodies of dogs in a cave near the village.
Fearing the worst we viewed some of the caves in the area and found in several of them the same sad scenario, dogs in various stages of decomposition, bound with ropes to rocks inside the caves where they had been left to die slowly of starvation. .. and even whole litters thrown into small pits from which they could not leave.
