Murcia perrera – Baas Galgo save 6 galgos from death row

Baas Galgo Murcia galgos 01 2011 190 Good news for 6 galgos which were on death row in the municipal perrera in Murcia. Baas Galgo to the rescue. Here’s a link to the story in Spanish; English translation below.

‘Galgos are key to the success of a hunt, but many of them are killed or abandoned by their owners when hunting season ends. Rescue Associations claim that animals have become a disposable tool. Many were hung from a tree after a hunt, others are thrown into a well or wounded by a shot as punishment if the hunt has not been successful, and only the best are left in the field.

The Municipal Animal Centre of Murcia, located in La Arboleja, has six dogs, four males and two females, given by their owners or picked up in the field. Association Baas Galgo, a protector of animals based in Alpedrete (Madrid), who specialise in the rescue and protection of this breed of dog, have been in contact with the Department of Health, interested in the adoption of the six dogs. Municipal services have made the relevant checks to ensure that the association is registered and has no profit and the galgos will soon be handed over to enjoy a long and happy life.’

Great Work.

But when will the hunters star taking responsibility for the situation with the galgos; stop breeding so many, stop abandoning and killing them, obey the Spanish laws already in existence to protect animals.
