Catalunya hunter fined 19,000 euros for maltreating dogs
This is a report from the Pro-Galgo Spanish website, of a case which occurred in October 2012 in Catalunya, where a hunter was fined 19,000 euros and banned from keeping animals for 5 years for mistreating his dogs. It happened at a farm in Montcada i Reixac. Altarriba Foundays says it is the highest penalty imposed in Catalunya for this type of crime.

Treatment for Canine Leishmaniosis – Pro-Galgo shares
I recently received an email from a researcher at the Royal Veterinary College in London on the subject of leishmaniosis in stray dogs in Spain and Portugal. This is Mo Swatek’s galga Recu, who was treated for the disease, and she writes with information on the leishmaniosis treatment prescribed by the Pro-Galgo vet.
‘We have in our group of 23 rescue dogs, 7 positive with canine leishmaniasis.
All of them receive 100mg allopurinol per 10kg of body weight 2 times a day. some have received the new LEISGUARD treatment, others the injections of glucantime if the liver and kidney allows it.

Too late for one – but 4 more lives saved from the streets of Sevilla
Mo Swatek of Pro-Galgo has sent the following appeal for help to pay vet bills for 4 dogs rescued off the streets of a village in Sevilla. They were too late to save one galga, with pneumonia and parvovirus, but the other galga, two podencos and a bodguero (like a Jack Russell) have been saved. You can read all about it here. (22/10 2012) Start a new week, let’s do it with energy, for it is greetings from our beloved galgito Honey, which stands alone, go smoothly, still standing all the time, he wants and has regained urinary control. All a champion still has to recover, then remember that came with tetraplajia, but the evolution of this noble animal is superb, and their resilience infinity. Honey thank you very much, for showing every day of what you are able, and help us not to give up on the bad times.

Sick and starving on the streets of Seville –
Little Nana, a tiny galga pup, was found in this miserable state near Seville. She has very severe sarcoptic mange, totally anaemic, high fever and covered with infected wounds all over her little body…. GLORIA an animal lover asked Pro-Galgo for help and they redirected her to their friend and collaborator, vet FATIMA in Seville. Little NANA is on a drip, will have a blood transfusion from another galgo and will stay at least overnight in the clinic. Barely 6 months old, she is fighting for her life. Gesser Galgos – Pro-Galgo & Fundacion Benjamin Mehnert to the rescue
I’m pleased to be able to tell you all that Pro-Galgo and Fundacion Benjamin Mehnert have taken the latest batch of galgos at Gesser killing station, Jerez. You can see the photos of some of them here, by the fireside at Pro-Galgo. Sadly, as President of Pro-Galgo Mo Swatek says, their places will soon be taken up by dozens more.
‘We have taken 14 of the Gesser galgos and 20 went to Fundacion Benjamin
