Fine of 19,000 euros for a hunter who mistreated his dogs on a farm of Montcada i Reixac. He has also been banned from keeping animals for five years.
Altarriba Foundation says it is and the highest penalty imposed in Catalunya for a similar case
FERRAN COSCULLUELA / GironaEl City of Montcada i Reixac and d’Agriculture Ministry has imposed three fines totaling 19,000 euros to a hunter who had kept about 30 dogs locked in deplorable conditions. There were the remains of another 23 dogs, most of them buried, but one of the bodies belonged to an animal that had died poisoned a few hours earlier.
He also kept the dogs without food and necessary hygiene and health conditions and by not providing necessary veterinary care.
The events date back to December 2011 when DAR Foundation Animal Rescue Altarriba and documented the presence of 33 dogs in poor condition in a property of Montcada. The animals were confiscated days later by the Generalitat Rural Agents.
A HELL
“What we saw there was a hell of dirt, putrid water, chains and feces,” explains Karin Pielanen , DAR Animal Rescue, speaking on the forfeiture. “Those animals were pleading for their lives One dog licked my hands through the bars, it had a bad wound. On the day of the seizure, we found this animal’s body thrown in the trash, with a terrible wound in the leg. ” According to the autopsy, it had died from ingesting a chemical used in agriculture.
Yolanda Valbuena, head of the legal department Altarriba Foundation, dedicated to the protection of animals, explained that this is the highest financial penalty to be imposed in such a case Catalunya.
BAD PRACTICES
The legal expert claims that there are some hunters who keep their dogs “in wells, miserable, filthy, infected with unhealed wounds. They use the dogs for their particular hobby. They remain tied throughout the week, except on days when they are freed to chase boar. The rest of the days and months of the year, the animals die of grief and pain, all day tied or locked in tiny cages, “he adds.
Valbuena says animal shelters often face situations like this, you have to take care of a large number of abused animals and try to find them a new home. “It is essential for society to help us, because we can alone. The protection will take care of the hardest part, but we need support to continue, “he adds.

well this is a start but he should not be allowd dogs agaim it will just be history repeating its self lets hope this is the start of more to come
Five years??? Really? These people should NEVER be allowed to have animals!! I would even wonder about children! Anyone that can cause such suffering and torture to a gentle living soul must have a heart of stone if he has one at all!!
Think the fine is great and it’s abouttime this country started doing something to stop such cruelty but 5 uear ban should have been life
absolutely agree WITH YOU BOTH!
Will these arseholes ever be educated. Sadly the answer is no. These galgos are no more than a piece of rubbish to the hunters. If they get a good hunting galgo but decide they want rid of it at the end of the hunting season they hang them by their necks high so they die quickly. If the galgo is no good at hunting they hang them low so they suffer badly. It is barbarick so say the least.
Keep fining them then they wont have the money for their particular “hobby!” Hunting with dogs and guns should be banned in Spain full stop. And the plea for the public to help is well intended, but I know at least 50 English, Spanish and German people, just in my part of Spain, who help in rehoming these beautiful dogs – so the help is available, they just have to publicise any actions they take and the help will be there.
