And this poor beauty was also stumbling around the streets of Toledo. Here’s her story.
‘This morning when I was coming from the Talavera hospital, this galguita was in a service area. I have seen she is very, very weak and something happens to her in her eyes that they close and they weep a lot.
If you look carefully, you can see a galgo curled up under this tree. Sandra Baas tells the story. ‘They thought he was dead, but when they came closer, they found out this poor boy was still alive. His story in short:
They named him Caramelo (Caramel). He is skin over bones, and has been shot several times. There are leads everywhere on one side of his body but mainly in his front and back legs. There are also leads that got into his body and those are dangerous. This gorgeous boy has a long way to go before he is healthy again.
These are just 4 of the 7 new galgos to arrive in the Jerez perrera for killing. Poor Mama galga, used for breeding, has a huge tumour. It costs 30 euros for an organisation to take the dogs including chip, rabies vacc, passport and worm and tick treatment. Dear Sirs
This is Cascabel, one of the Jerez galgos, after 12 days of veterinary care with Silvia of GalgoConnectionSpain in Valencial Here’s what Silvia says. ‘This dog came twelve days ago, the ulcers infected, dehydrated, malnourished, we thought he was going to die but, after some days of feeding him intravenously, he started to eat one his own. He’s gained three kilos.’ Silvia says there are problems with all of the Jerez galgos. Many of the perreras don’t feed the dogs much,’why feed a dog you’re going to kill’! Traffic in Malaga was today brought to a standstill when animal lovers in Andalucia took to the streets to protest about animal cruelty in Spain and in particular the plight of the galgos at the hands of the hunters. It’s at this time of year that the galgueros get rid of their dogs – upwards of 50,000 every year. The protestors wore black, many of the dogs wore black collars and scarves. Well done, everyone.

One of the ways of training a galgo is to run it alongside a motor vehicle or motorbike. This was made illegal because of the injuries suffered by galgos who went down. I have seen the injuries, horrific, on one galga we brought out of Spain. In 2011 the Junta of Andalucia legalised it. Here’s a rough translation
This is not the face of Spain that the Spanish people want to show the world, but this is the face of Spain which the galgueros show to the world. Sickening, senseless death and injury caused by irresponsible hunters who take no responsibility for the misery they cause. And now the streets, refuges and killing stations are overflowing with abandoned galgos, in their hundreds every week, across Spain. Only the other day I heard that some galgos had been hung in Murcia. Please publicise the problem far and wide; one day we have to shame Spain to take action to stop it.

This poor soul is in Barbate, Cadiz. He is very thin and, as you can see, has an eye out. Surprisingly he is willing to get n a car, he is not too afraid, wags his tail a bit. The problem is that the volunteer has not the funds to pay for the operation needed on the eye. She desperately needs a foster home for him, and an association to take care of the eye operation with their vet. Please, is there an association anywhere who will take this poor boy in and save what is left of his eye. Goodness knows what caused this damage.
