  • Accommodation in Spain – fun holidays in Spain!

Olivenza perrera starving 2 250 blackThis is not the face of Spain that the Spanish people want to show the world, but this is the face of Spain which the galgueros show to the world. Sickening, senseless death and injury caused by irresponsible hunters who take no responsibility for the misery they cause. And now the streets, refuges and killing stations are overflowing with abandoned galgos, in their hundreds every week, across Spain. Only the other day I heard that some galgos had been hung in Murcia. Please publicise the problem far and wide; one day we have to shame Spain to take action to stop it.

  • Injured Galgo in Cadiz, can an association take him and heal him?

Galgo eye 1 250 1 2 2012This poor soul is in Barbate, Cadiz. He is very thin and, as you can see, has an eye out. Surprisingly he is willing to get n a car, he is not too afraid, wags his tail a bit. The problem is that the volunteer has not the funds to pay for the operation needed on the eye. She desperately needs a foster home for him, and an association to take care of the eye operation with their vet. Please, is there an association anywhere who will take this poor boy in and save what is left of his eye. Goodness knows what caused this damage.

If you can take him, please contact Helena 657133551 helenamalia89@gmail.com

  • Spanish Legal Expert needed – law on galgos running free

Cordoba galga mama 250 1 26 07This is a question for the legal experts to answer. A couple in Palencia found two starving galgos in a ditch a couple of years ago. They adopted them and walk them in the fields in a morning, letting them run free. As they are so well fed, they don’t tend to catch anything!

The couple have now been told – by a man with two (unleashed) hunting dogs – that they are breaking the law by having the galgos run free in the campo, that they spoil the hunting. If he sees them running free again, he will file a report with the Guardia Civil.

Badajoz galgo 1 250 17 1 2012A volunteer in Badajoz pleads for help for another galgo. ‘ARWIN is a young galgo 16 months old… the galguera (female hunter) contacted us and said he will kill him in 48 hours if we can’t find anywhere for him.

When we came to see the dog, we found he was terrified, he had a lot of bite marks on him, some healed, some more recent. I have asked the galguera please let us bathe him, heal the wounds and carry him to the vet… but she says the dog is not hers, and the dog has to go.

  • The true face of Spanish galgo hunting!

Seville starved galga 210 17 1 2012Écija is a city 85kn east of the city of Seville, in the region of Andalucia, one of the 5 regions of Spain where hunting with galgos is legal. It is also the city where this young galga was found. Natalia tells the story. ‘This young galga we have named Isha, a galguita we collected a few days ago near Ecija. You can see she cannot walk, she has no muscles, suffering from severe malnutrition and high leishmania; we have had to hospitalize her to save her life.
