Protectora ArcoAris, Cuenca – 150 dogs may be killed – please help!

Protectora ArcoAiris de Cuenca 250Nightmare scenario in Cuenca! I feel sick in my heart to read this, thinking of all the animals who have been saved, who may now be killed. Here’s the story.

The provincial perrera in Cuenca where they used to sacrifice every 3 months many, many dogs, has since January 2011 been a protectora where, since that time, not one dog was sacrificed. The president, Pilar, makes tremendous efforts to keep it this way but because they are just 1 year working as a shelter, they just don’t have enough associations who help them in finding adoption families for their dogs. This means they now have some 300 dogs instead of the 150 which is permitted. Of the 300 dogs there are at least 100 galgos.

Cuenca galgos 2 2012ProtectNow the inspection has been there and the shelter have been told that in a few weeks all the dogs above the 150 will be killed. They have said this twice before but until now they managed to get the dogs out. But this time it is not working, too few
dogs are leaving the shelter and Pilar is very demotivated now. She will almost die when they start sacrificing the dogs!! She is crying the whole day and does not know what to do, just like Milagros, another devoted volunteer who takes care of the
reservations of the dogs and other things.

Another problem is that when they will have to sacrifice the dogs in Cuenca, Pilar will certainly lose the shelter and it will become a perrera again where many dogs will be killed, so that is not preferable to happen.

Please can anyone take any of the dogs from this shelter, to help them? You can see the dogs on the website here; if you want to contact them, click on the box to send an email.

Its not just the hunters, is all the bloody
breeders of dogs, people who wont have their dogs spayed/castrated – the same
in every country, total irresponsibility! Makes me so angry! Thanks
for circulating this. Cant bear to think what these people are going

Have also shared. How heartbreaking for these kind people who have tried their best to cope with an unremmitting dreadful situation. I hope enough people rally round to save these dogs and save the protectora.

poor poor souls if this shelter can deal with these 300 dogs what is the problem is it because who ever what ever pays money to feed these dogs into the shelter is that why they must kill them or because they just tell the shelter to many dogs
