Castilla la Mancha running galgos 7 2014 250The galgo hunting federation in Castilla la Mancha have requested the Junta to allow this cruel practice of ‘training’ galgos from motorised vehicles. • Galgo Ebro – beating the odds to heal a broken body and soul

These two videos are of Ebro, an example of the incredible will to live which lies within the galgos in Spain. Two broken front legs, put back together by vet Paco, nursed and cared for by the del Rio family. this is why we help the galgos, and why 112carlotagalgos needs your help – without your donations they couldn’t keep helping these galgos regain the will to live and become family pets. • Campaign – please write to the Spanish galgo hunting federations

Regular readers will remember that in March 2013 I published my ‘Letter to the Galgueros’. After the news of Fermin and the meetings with the FEG, I sent him a copy of my letter. He will be publishing it on the Scooby website and will also be forwarding it to his galguero contacts.

So I thought now would be a good time for us all to send a copy of the letter to the galgueros, since the mass abandonment and dumping in perreras is worse than ever and has not let up in the past 18 months. Figures now are certainly 120,000 galgos ‘disposed of’

  • Chained galga starving to death – now fighting to live

Charl Adina carrying 250 12 2013This is galga Adina – chained up, no food, no water, left to starve to death. Rescued and taken immediately to the vet and kept in the clinic for a few days to monitor. Now she is safe with 112carlotagalgos. Charl tells the story – briefly

‘I now introduce you to Princess Adina!

Survival is her wish. Her longing to live through the darker days held her… brought her to this.. home.

At the moment we’re not testing her .. everything seems to be working ok for the moment. Bowels and urine. But she will be watched. Tests of the usual would only be false at this time. So recuperation is what she needs. Rest. Food. Rest. Food.

She longed to live.. here she is. Welcome to finca 112 Carlotagalgos special girl.

Embraced by chains.. you have been released. We have prayed for you. For strength to see a new day.. It’s yours to take now.. day by day. Little by little.. you will see your forever.’

Vet fees are already mounting, plus special food costs – please donate by paypal to comdelrio@hotmail.com.

  • Update on Eboli – badly injured galga, rescued by El Refugio Kimba

Refugio Kimba Eboli carried 190Update on Eboli, rescued by El Refugio Kimba – badly injured on the road with part of a bumper embedded in her.

Eboli is much better, on Tuesday 15/10 she will go to the vet again so they can remove the plate in the broken leg and start working on the rehabilitation. She is a wonderful galgo, despite the pain that she has suffered, she has never been bad with anyone, even when taking her medication. She is treated twice daily to help her skin recover; she lost most of the skin on her leg which also became infected.

If you would like to help Eboli, here’s the link to the Refugio Kimba website. If my memory serves me right from when I was researching my galgo book, Kimba is the oldest animal shelter in Spain, originally set up to protect fauna and flora.
