Rescued galgas flying the flag in Yorkshire with The Blue Greyhound
Regular readers will know The Blue Greyhound shop on ebay where Susan Dawson raises funds for greyhounds and galgos. Her two galgas were recently chosen as winners of a competition and they were at Bark in the Park last weekend, in east Yorkshire. Here’s what Susan says, and some fabulous photos
The Blue Greyhound had a stall yesterday (17/8/2013) at Bark in the Park, a great show that we attend every year which promotes good dog ownership. Lots of great stalls. It was also a special day for Eli and Cassie who received their Dog Star Awards.

Galgo Zafiro – waiting at Pepis Refuge, Seville, for a forever home
Jane Brian of Pepis Refuge, near Seville, tells the story of this beautiful galgo.
‘A galgero came to the refuge about a month ago asking, can we take a Galgo. At the time we told him we were full, he explained he wanted his Galgo to come here to Pepis. We asked him if he could wait a month, then it may be possible. He agreed then left.
Almost to the day he turned up at 9pm last night, with Zafiro. A beautiful five year old boy. He took Zafiro out of the car without a leash on him, and Zafiro stood next to his side, looking up at him, tail wagging and looking at him with such loyalty. I must admit, the galgero himself looked sad to leave him, but leave him, he did. He told me has had him from a puppy and asked would he get a good home.

Please Help Pepis Refuge fence land for the Galgos
Please help Pepis Dog Refuge Fence our Land for the Galgos (Spanish greyhounds)!
www.ebay.co.uk in Pet Supplies, Dog Supplies. Or you can donate here.Alan and Jane thought they were going to retire when they moved to Spain. Instead, like so many other animal loving Brits, they could not turn away from the desperate situation for abandoned dogs and cats. They now have about 70 dogs at Pepis, and the latest arrivals are these 4 puppies, three of them very newly born and another little girl left at their gate yesterday. This means tremendous amount of work around the clock with feeds – those of us with children remember it well!

The Shame of Spain – what the tourists don’t see
Two very sickening stories, both from Andalucia region, a veritable hell hole for galgos and podencos. The first one was in Jaen, where a starved and dying galgo lay on the pavement whilst people walked by. No-one helped. It was too late by the time the person who took the photo found him.
The second story is from La Linea shelter, down near Gibralter, where Peter does amazing work helping the abandoned dogs. Peter has been visiting a place called Los Junquillos where there were reports of a totally neglected and skinny galgo. When Peter got there, he found that someone even had smashed his feet. The vet had to take out some bones from the feet and now the galgo is on medication for the pain and infection. How many barbaric people live in this little town..dear lord! La Linea

Please help Pizarro find his forever family
Carmina lives in Seville and helps Macu, who rescues galgos and podencos from Palmete, the gitano/galguero settlement. Pizarro is a stunning black beauty who is in foster with Carmina. Here is what she says about him.
‘Please, can you help me to spread to Pizarro for adoption? If I get a good family for him I will be able to host another dog. Pizarro was picked up from the street. He is 2-3 years old. He is sterilized, vaccinated and microchipped. His analysis results are perfect. He has a superb character and can live with other dogs, cats and horses.’
Please contact Carmina direct about Pizarro. Let’s find him a family. Carmina speaks perfect English.
