Accommodation in Malaga – this hotel is full

Charl Ambo and Ebro 250 10 2013It’s a while since I shared news about

Harley arrived with a badly infected eye. Sadly it could not be saved. (He’s below wearing the pink bandage!)

Charl Dante leg 170 9 2013Dante is another recent arrival with a deformed front leg, in pain, because the galguero did nothing! He was on death row in Huelva perrera, covered in ticks with sad eyes, a piercing cry – he howled in the kennel, lost and scared. He had mass muscle wastage on his shoulder, his ankle was dead, a letter freeze brand on his back leg, and old fractures were evident on the xrays vet Paco took. Paco has operated to ease the pain. More vet bills into 4 figures.

Tarzan was living rough on the streets, a very canny streetwise galgo – it took 4 months to final catch him.

Charl Happy mange 190 9 2013Happy has recently arrived, suffering the most horrendous mange. In great pain, swollen legs, raw wounds, unable to lie down. His treatment has now started and he has a soft comfy bed to lie on in recovery. More costly vet fees.

And next week two more galgos arrive from kennels where they were awaiting room to go to the finca.

On top of this, Charl has held ‘open days’ at the finca where children (and their parents) can come and spend the day learning what is involved in looking after a dog. She’s also been invited to local schools to talk to classes on the subject.

All the family are involved in caring for the dogs including the children. Every day up early to feed and clean the dogs, exercise them, treat with medication, travelling to and from the vet.

It’s extremely hard work with a continual worry of how the next bills will be paid, as well as concern about the sick galgos. There is no quick fix; just weeks and months of love, patience, experience and hard work.

The del Rio family help each and every soul which comes into the finca and they live their lives on a financial wing and a prayer.

You can donate towards the cost of Dante’s vet bill on this link.

You can donate direct to 112carlotagalgos on this link.

This photo below is of Ebro when he first arrived at the finca, carried in a torn Carrefour bag to support his broken body. This was the best way to move him to lessen any pain his smashed up body was enduring after being tied up and rammed by a car.

And below that is Prince, starving and sick, barely able to stand – his recovery was a slow process as he lost interest in food. He had to be hand fed, spoon fed broth.

And finally Ebro taking the sun with Charl – you can see the pins which he had on both front legs when they were reset.

Jen, you have always been a wonderful supporter of the appeals on Galgo News and Podenco Post – however small, you find a donation from somewhere. Do you need some more goods for car boot sales? Would you like me to appeal to send stuff to you if they dont live too far away?

Charl does such amazing work. Our group do a few fundraisers for 112carlotagalgos to help with vets bills etc, but there is always more that needs doing, always more money needed. There are so many lost, tortured souls out there to save – it is heartbreaking. I admire anyone who gives there time to saving these beautiful dogs. I look at my galgo/podenco cross Gandalf every day and give thanks to Charl and his rescuers – without them he would be dead now without a doubt.

It try and donate when I can. Charl is doing a wonderful job, totally admire and respct her. I think Sight Hounds for Life are going to do another auction for Charl. The first auction they put on was great, really lovely stuff. I did win a lovely collar for my greyhound. There is also Martin Usborne’s blog ‘A Year to Help’ where you can buy some beautiful prints of Charl’s galgo and the money raised goes directly to her for the galgos.
