  • Sponsor Lisa’s Parachute Jump for associacion 112carlotagalgos

Poster Bec 05 2010 250 Regular readers will know that, for the past 3 years at the beginning of December, Charl has organised a Fiesta des Galgos in Malaga, where she lives. She’s just formed her own association 112carlotagalgos and from 12th -19th September, Fiesta des Galgos goes International!

It commences with Lisa’s 5,000ft parachute jump on 12th September, which is the same day as my own Fete des Galgos at my home in France. My event is a Fun Dog Show, plus Craft Fair, Have A Go Archery and display of classic and interesting cars and bikes. The following weekend on 19th September, GRIN in the US are holding a BIG galgo picnic.

  • Podenca Andaluz Bebe – off on an adventure in rural France!

Animal Images 2008 070 250 Yet another story about a podenco! This time it is about mine, little Bebe, my Podenca Andaluz, rescued injured from a Seville motorway 2 1/2 years ago. My vet operated on her injured leg, and now Bebe is the fastest Pod on 4 legs!! I haven’t been able to train her to come to me when she is outside of the house, the vet thought she was about 5 or 6 when rescued, so probably too old to train. So when we walk the dogs, Bebe is on a harness and long lead, and then on a long tether on a long line when in the courtyard with the other dogs. Our courtyard is enclosed for galgos and Podenco Canarios and Ibicencos, but not the miniatures. We have to leave one or two small escape routes for our cat, in case she ventures into the courtyard when the dogs are loose.

  • Podenca Minerva in Seville looking for a forever home

Minerva6-150x150 250 And another gorgeous podenca rescued last month and looking for her forever home.

Minerva in Roman mythology, among other things, goddess of wisdom. And our podenquita proved to be very wise when she decided that she should continue to the door of the house of Angel and his girlfriend. Somehow she knew they would take her.

Our kids spent hours and hours ridding her of a lot of parasites, they gave her a bath and after a hearty meal, Minerva, as a baby calm and confident, fell asleep. On waking we have found a sweetheart.

  • Podenca Maria, injured and surviving on the streets of Seville

Maria-10 Assn. ARCA Aug 2010 190 This little podenca is Maria, who was abandoned and has lived most of her life on the streets of a village near to Seville, too terrified to be caught. Searching for food amongst rubbish, dodging vehicles on the road, bearing puppies.

She was finally captured last month by an association ARCA, along with her 3 puppies. She has been hit twice by vehicles and has suffered a compression of the spinal cord which has resulted in a loss of feeling, and poor movement.

  • The Plight of the Galgo – Spain must act to stop this!

Linda galga puppies Mairena 06 207 2010 300 Some months ago, a lot of photos of galgos in Mairena were circulating on the Internet, including Galgo News. The information I had been given was that this was a killing station. It has since come to light that Mairena is in fact a perrera, ‘Protectora de Animales Y Plantas de Sevilla, which has contracts with city councils of cities and villages in the area, to retrieve abandoned dogs from the streets. Hunters also take their dogs there when hunting has finished.

This galga (who has been named Linda) gave birth to 10 puppies a couple of days ago, and all of them have been taken to Mairena. What sick person can do this. Look at the conditions in which she lies exhausted.
