Here’s a message from Cobie, a Dutch volunteer who has travelled to Spain to help at the Scooby Medina refuge.
‘Scooby saved some 75 galgos from the area around Sevilla. A few weeks ago they went picking up some 25 galgos, Last Wednesday another 37 of which you can see the pictures and tomorrow (Tuesday) another 25 are being picked up by Scooby. They come from everywhere, taken from the streets, from gypsy camps, from perreras, also from the bloody perrera from Mairena.
A group of people saved them from these places and then they called Fermin Perez of Scooby Medina, when they have enough dogs to make a trip to the South. It is some 700 km. from Medina to Seville. And here in Scooby they will all be prepared for adoption, vaccinated, chip, castration, sterilization, European passport etc.
They are all very, very sweet dogs and the hard life is over for them. From now on, only love and kisses for these “lucky ones”. And I am very proud to be able to take care of them too and very thankful to Fermin for being the galgo lover that he is and for saving these wonderfull creatures. Let’s hope he can save many, many more. When people want to help him financially, please do.’
To help pay for the costs of feeding these dogs, plus all the vet fees to prepare them for adoption, visit the Scooby website.

Yes, the volunteers at the grass roots of the
galgo/podenco abandonment problem are real stars; they suffer so much
themselves, physically and emotionally and they can also suffer abuse from
Spaniards who do not agree with what they do.
Thanks for reading GN and for caring. Hope
you have sent a letter off to your MEP.
