  • Exclusive accommodation in Spain – rescue attempts for 74 galgos and podencos

Gypsy galgo starved 1 150 1 2012No apologies for the ‘stupid’ title to this post. I have put in key words and want to reach as many people as possible looking at Spain, for whatever reason. Update on the rescue of 74 galgos/podencos – mostly galgos – from a gypsy in Murcia, who has a denuncia against him. Here is what Tina Solera of Galgos del Sol says.

‘Approx 74 galgos and pods. GdS managed to rescue 9 with the help of The Henrietta Foundation who will foster 4 of those for us. La Fortelaza took 8, and another lady there took approx 5 I think and has another 5-6 reserved but has to come back. GalgoConnection Spain in Valencia are taking 3. So there are approx 45 left that are all due to be taken away and put to sleep on Friday 27th January 2012. ‘ I believe although that date is not concrete.

‘Fury from Camposol ex pats regarding hunting fine of 300 Euros

My partner and I worked tirelessly with a dog rescue for three years in the Murcia area, and fostered and rescued numerous Greyhound types (called Galgos in Spain) which were cast off by hunters at the end of each season; you can imagine that hunters are not the most well thought of individuals amongst the dog rescue fraternity in Murcia.

These dogs are in poor condition, some chained to walls….the gypsies are very hard on the galgos. Several people belonging to rescue associations and refuges are involved in this operation.

  • Spanish Legal Expert needed – law on galgos running free

Cordoba galga mama 250 1 26 07This is a question for the legal experts to answer. A couple in Palencia found two starving galgos in a ditch a couple of years ago. They adopted them and walk them in the fields in a morning, letting them run free. As they are so well fed, they don’t tend to catch anything!

The couple have now been told – by a man with two (unleashed) hunting dogs – that they are breaking the law by having the galgos run free in the campo, that they spoil the hunting. If he sees them running free again, he will file a report with the Guardia Civil.

Seville starved galga 210 17 1 2012Écija is a city 85kn east of the city of Seville, in the region of Andalucia, one of the 5 regions of Spain where hunting with galgos is legal.
