  • Live on the Costa Blanca? Can you help Blue?

Galgo blueHe’s a beautiful greyhound lucky enough to be with APAH rescue on the Costa Blanca. Associacion Protectora de Animales Horadada.

    Learn more about Blue.

APAH are very active in trying to improve life for abandoned animals in their area, especially for the hunting dogs. This is what they say on their website.

“Hunting is a very popular pastime in this area and while some owners care for their dogs the majority do not.

The Pointers and Greyhounds that end up with us have often been badly ill-treated with burns over their bodies, chains embedded into their necks and that is before they have been abandoned with no food or water in a strange area and left to fend for themselves.

  • Oh, God, where are you now?

Matilda is now in the safe hands of Greyhounds Rescue Holland

  • How a mouse can help a galgo

Galgo fundsThis will only take a moment of your time, but it could help a galgo get an antiparasite collar.

Click on this link. It will take you to a site in Spanish, but don’t worry if you don’t read Spanish. Go to the box on the right hand side of the screen and fill in your email address.

You’ll then get a list of animal shelters in Spain. Choose one, click in the circle on the left of the shelter’s name – I picked El Refugio Escuela because that’s where Bebe came from – and then click at the bottom of the list to confirm the donation.

If you have more than one email address, use it, as then more antiparasite collars will be sent to the refuges for free!

    Inicio Donacion

So far, 329 collars have been donated.

  • Pro-Galgo makes an appeal

Galgo pupsThe story of this bitch and her puppies arrived in my mail box a couple of days ago. They were found on a plot of land, malnourished but alive. On top of this, the poor bitch had a terrible wound, which is badly infected.

Luckily, they were taken in by Refugio Escuelo Sevilla, already overflowing with dogs and puppies. The bitch, named Ceilo, is receiving veterinary care and, when she is fit enough to travel, will be fostered with Mo Swatek, of Pro-Galgo.

Pro-Galgo has donated 200 euros for the initial veterinary expenses, but 15 euros per day is needed to finance keeping the pups in a boarding kennel till they are recovered and rehomed.

  • Latest news on the Toledo galga

The news on the Galga from Toledo was that she was rescued.

Her bleeding was because she had not been able to take out the after birth from having given birth. She also had kidney failure and she was hospitalised for six days. She is now going to her foster family, to be socialised.

Whoever had her hurt her tremendously, and she is terrified. Her four puppies are perfectly well, still in the hospital, and tube fed. They will shortly be going to two families for their foster care where they will start to be bottle fed every three hours

Thank you to Charl for this good news.

  • Wish I could keep them all… Can you help this little chap?

CamaronThis is Camaron, he is in Jaen, a podenco which was found abandoned – left at night and he was totally desorientated, passing from one side to another.

He found his way to the door of a security guard office, and he stayed there all night without moving. Everywhere the guard went, the dog followed. He is very scared, and needs guidance so he is not alone.

He’s only about 8 months old. All tests negative. good with dogs and cats, sterilised, vaccinated, microchipped, wormed and de-flead. He urgently needs to find a foster home or adoption, as I can’t keep him, I have so many other dogs.
