My health is bad. There are days I feel so terrible that I can barely move. My phone bills are outrageous, and I could have replaced my van with the funds I have spent these last 3 years—on animals that were not my own.’
We just received news about a young galgo caught in a hunting trap who Pro-Galgo have agreed to take in and help pay for surgery on the leg.
The vet estimates this will cost around 600 Euros / £500, which as always we simply don’t have.
A vet has offered to give us a big discount for the operation, providing that we find a foster home for the dog in its period of recovery.
Greyhound Awareness Week gives an opportunity for all those concerned about the plight of greyhounds to educate the public about the mass slaughter of dogs caused by the greyhound racing industry.
With a large enough boycott by ordinary people, the industry can be brought to its knees and the suffering and untimely death of thousands of greyhounds prevented.
Here’s a list of events organised by Greyhound Action to commemorate this week.
Greyhound Action have announced that the UK flagship greyhound racing stadium, Walthamstow Stadium, has now closed down. But there are 29 more stadiums in the UK which are still operating on.
Whilst they herald this as a success, and it is a great success, what concerns me is that the more stadiums in the UK which close down, the more stadiums will open in Australia, Korea and China – and we can only begin to imagine the abuse and suffering in store for the greyhounds exported to these countries. It is quite likely that Spanish galgos will also end up there too.

Yesterday in the afternoon a colleague of mine was in the house of a lady who has 40 dogs. She cannot take any more.
We are worried about these 5 babies. They are 4 months old and live in a kennel in very very poor conditions. One has a very bloody paw because the bigger ones pick on it.
This galga has just given birth in this dirty place, a house, derelict about to fall down. It will soon fall down! The worst, is that JUST a few metres away from her litter of pups is a well, a well with an incredible amount of depth.

Three years ago this beautiful galgo was adopted from Parque Animal in Torremolinos, Malaga, by an English couple.
Having previously been abandoned, he thought he had found his forever home.
Nearly 4 years later he finds himself back where he was, due to unforeseen circumstances out of his control and that of his adoptive parents.
Thanks to June for bringing this to our notice. Breeding Galgos in France. Whatever is this man thinking about – breeding galgos. Does he not know what goes on in Spain?!
Pat Getz, of the Greyhound Protection League USA, has kindly sent in this translation of the letter I received from the office of the Spanish Prime Minister.
She says ‘A friend of mine who speaks Spanish and is married to someone who speaks Spanish as his native language was kind enough to do this translation. Kristin is very busy with two small children and many, many activities, but is a great animal lover. I thank her for her efforts.’
