CAGED Nationwide is an organisation fighting to get all the greyhound racing tracks in the UK shut down – they expose much of the horrific maltreatment suffered by greyhounds. This is one of the latest stories to hit the headlines. The murderess received 36 weeks in jail!!!!
‘We are now able to share with you that less that 24hours after winning the public vote at Holyrood Dog of the Year, Joy’s last trainer Rebecca Perkins has been JAILED for three counts of ANIMAL CRUELTY and causing unnecessary suffering to an animal.
This came after Ms Perkins, a GBGB (Greyhound Racing Board of Great Britain) licensed trainer, abandoned around 40 greyhounds in her GBGB registered kennels and left them to starve to death. Many were found dead alongside living, but emaciated greyhounds. Several dogs had to be put to sleep immediately as they could not be saved, and others like Joy, face a life of rehabilitation. We cannot imagine what suffering those dogs endured under her so-called care. Despite barbarically losing her leg, Joy is one of the lucky ones who survived the racing industry and Rebecca Perkins.
This was a GBGB registered trainer and GBGB licensed kennels. How could this possibly happen when the regulator purports to uphold the highest welfare standard?! Yet more evidence for Finlay Carson MSP For Galloway And West Dumfries and the RAI committee that regulation simply does not protect greyhounds. Only an end to the industry will truly protect the dogs.

Cn21 euthanised 6 days after came into care rspca damaged leg needed surgery to amputate leg but not high enough weight for surgery, cn28 euthanased couldn’t stand unable to move, cn36 Thought it was dead died at scene, cn26 euthanised, collapsed emaciated, areas of fur missing, had fleas, pressure sores lying in faeces, the living had no water or food not one dog scored a body score above 3.

Demand Defra holds an immediate investigation to find why the Greyhound Board (greyhound racing industry regulators) didn’t find the Rebecca Perkins dogs before some had reached their deaths and others on the verge of death due to starvation.
Ask Defra to make enquiries with ALL greyhound trainers and give them anonymity as there are claims amongst the pro racing community that a GBGB stipendiary steward was warned before things advanced at the Perkins kennel however they say these trainers are too frightened to speak out publicly due to potential threats against them.
