AN URGENT MESSAGE FROM MO SWATEK, PRO-GALGO
25 galgos (Spanish greyhounds) have only a few days left before they are put down, if we do not pull them out of the killing station by the end of next week. If we don’t take them, either they will be killed or some others will be put to sleep to make room for the new ones to come (end of the hunting season)!!!!
PRO-GALGO is in touch with volunteers in the Jerez Gesser dogpound and we are expecting today the first information about their health state etc. but we urgently need funds to pay for the following expenses:
25 multiple vaccines (rabies and micro chip is financed by the local city council)
Transport to the foster families and shelters in Spain (in Spain we have something like DHL but for dogs, that costs around 50eur per dog, countrywide
20 warm coats (we have the coldest winter in years in Spain and the animals in the shelters suffer terribly with temperatures down to -10º celcius in certain areas)
Antibiotics for the dogs who already got faringitis and other problems from the cold (distemper risk is very high with low defenses after such infections)
Leishamnia and Ehrlichia tests
An aproximate minimum expense per dog is around 80-100eur incl local transport etc. Every cent counts!!

PRO-GALGO has sent 30 vaccines to Jerez, the vet will vaccinate the dogs today after a litte health check of each dog.
There are 18 foster offers for the dogs at the moment, 7 still need a place but we are positive to be able to find a solution. The first dogs will be travelling to their foster families next Monday and Tuesday. And then we can start with the vetcare of each dog in each place.
The rescue of ths galgos is a huge collaboration project of different shelters and rescue groups, such as : Protectora Villena, Galgos112, Galgos del Norte, PRO-GALGO etc

we will go on tuesday to jerez and stay for 2 days, helping to check the dogs, make files for each dog and then move them all to different foster families
we have decided to rent a van and move them all together except a few that have been taken already.
we have also send las wednesday 30 multiple-vaccines for the galgos, 15 coats and 20 new collars, so the dogs are warm end vaccinated when we will thake them.
we will bring the dogs to the volonteers of different galgo organisations such us Galgos112, protectora Villena and of cours PRO-GALGO
for some dogs we have found already forever homes but the big part will be fostered until rehomed
as soon as we have more pix and inofs, we will let you know.

Thank you for telling everyone the latest news about these beautiful galgos and the incredible efforts you have made to save these dogs. I am sure everyone is wishing you and your team, as well as the volunteers in the other associations, good luck with taking the dogs and finding them forever homes. I wish I could get to Spain more easily so that I could help too, but maybe people reading here about your work will be able to send donations and so on, and then I will be pleased to have helped in some small way.
Look forward to getting more news and pix, although I am following the story on your website.
