Susanna Hollesch recently wrote about the Protectora de Granada and how much help is needed for the poor shelters and refuges under their umbrella. One such refuge is Association Ladridos Vagabundos. This is an urgent appeal from them
Aim: Providing the big dogs cages of a door and an awning to protect them from sun and rain. A total of 11 gates and 20 cages for cover.
Currently: Every time the dogs come out of their cages volunteers have to raise one of the panels forming the cage. And every time you open the cage, the canopy that summer we will gradually breaking and fixing the panel that opens to the dog out. So, before putting the roof, we must ensure that all panels of the cages will remain secure. Hence the need to do before the doors.
Some cages have doors but in others panels have to be cut to create openings the size of a door, but must be reinforced with iron frames, as until now are closing with hooks or wire and everything is very weak.
Roofs would be better for other stronger material but as our budget is very limited, we thought that the solution of the sheets is the best fit for everyone.
Budget:
This budget has only been recorded material and labor that they put people who are going to lend a hand to the shelter (2 people in particular).
Regarding the doors, we’ll buy the frame and made to save labor.
Work to do:
We have already started with a door because the summer is very hot in Granada and dogs urgently need shade.
To attach the door panel cut a frame that measures then soldered.
For the ceiling by placing 3 steel rods to act as “beams” that will put up the awning.
In winter will place a plastic top to fall the least amount of water inside their cages.
Separation between cages:
Another work which we believe is necessary is to leave a certain height from the ground between cage and cage so that when we move the hose to clean the dirty water runs out and not left between the bars of the cage as usual. Therefore you put a steel tube 1.5 mm in diameter to 1-2 cm above the ground.
