More galgos needing help in Mairena killing station, Seville

Message from Loli Dalo

On Friday, I was in the killing station of Mairena, Seville, to rescue a few small dogs, and found more than 30 galgos. They urgently need to get out of there and sheltered and fostered before they are sacrified.

    Bonjour
Thank you for your message. Whilst there is
so much cruelty to all animals, and lack of compassion by the galguerros and
gitans, I cannot believe there is a God, because if there is, he certainly isnt
looking after the animals which end up in all the killing stations.
Thanks for reading Galgo News and for
    commenting.

How we could get this galgos from there?
Do they have any web site …
I thing the large problem is with high cost for galgos and of course with very high transport costs from Spain to the other countries of Europe. If they want for one galgo 300 euros and another 300 euros per galog for the transport, people will not be interested to adopt this dogs …
They should ask their guverment (if the guverment just want this traditional hunting with galgos to go on, they should give some financial support for galgos retirement) to give shellters money so they could find them homes in the rest of the Europe …and of course money for the sterilization/castration, microchip, passport and transport cost for them. Shellters must push hard on the Spanish guverment to help this galgos and not just let them put in sleep …
Galgos are just wonderful pets and Spanish guverment should not be so phlegmatic to this problem …
Why the local shellters do not want to help this galgos and get them out of there …?
I think the lot of organizations from Europe would like to help this galgos but the shellters should be interested to give them with small costs to the adopters …
I do not have any idea how will be people interested for adotion of galgo if they have to give for one galgo 700 euros or more. Of course I would give this money and you would give so many money, but not all people who are also interested for adoption …
The costs for adoptions are very important for saving galgos …

    Bonjour Larisa
The problem is that the shelters in Spain are
already overflowing with dogs, every day there are dogs thrown over the fence
into a shelter, tied up outside the gates, Scooby has over 600 dogs, some of the
shelters I have visited have over 200, and the end of January has not yet
arrived! So the shelters and refuges and Spanish rescue associations find
it very hard to find anywhere for galgos taken from the killing stations to go,
whilst they are checked by the vet, vaccinated, blood tested etc. And the
associations are also short of money – they rely on donations mainly. Its
a disgraceful situation for them to be in.
SOS Galgos has taken some of the Mairena galgos, so
has GreyhoundFriendsHolland, and probably other groups too, but the shelters
just dont have enough room. And its this emotional as well as physical
strain which takes its toll on the volunteers – many of them just have to take
time out because the strain is too much.
We have all got to get the Spanish government to
take action, as well as put pressure on the regional and municipal
councils. But many of them are galguerros………………….nuff
    said?!
Thank you for caring so much. Maybe you could
contact SOS Galgos and see if you can work something out between
    you.

I picked up two greyhounds weaving the traffic last week. They were in terrible condition and not far from being killed or killing someone in an traffic accident. Im told by some of my spanish friends that i need to let it go and not care and my reply is always I will never feel ashamed of loving these wondeful dogs and having compassion and also I will never allow my mentality to drop to that 3rd world. The refuge I work in has 200 dogs and when the greyhounds are rehomed im always worrying about whether they will be used as hunters or what will happen to them.

What friends of your would say this kind of words …Just let this galgos die out there? This is not your friends …Why some people in your country do not find galgos like pets? They are so nice and full of love pets …they deserve only love …pure love.
Thank you for saving them and I think guverment should do something with this problem to be solved …

    Hi Tina
You are another amazing person in Spain, helping
these poor galgos, and the other dogs. Of course you could not leave them
in the traffic, what do people expect, leave them and then have them badly
injured and die in agony?! Dont worry, Tina, there are thousands of us
with you in mind and spirit and we are doing what we can to try and make the
Spanish government take action to stop all this misery. Be srong and keep
sending us the news, so we can give as much publicity as possible to what the
galgos and other Spanish dogs suffer.

Exterior España no podemos entender
I quite agree with
you. It is terrible to know of the maltreatment of all animals in Spain,
dogs, bulls, horses, donkeys. We outside Spain cannot understand how it
can be allowed to go on. Which is why we all keep campaigning to get the
Spanish government to make a law to protect ALL animals, and to ENFORCE the
    law.
Thank you for posting your comment, we are all with you in agreement.
