Kafir – a galgo surviving against all odds – looking for his forever home

Kafir lying down 0110 250 This is the latest news about Kafir, the poor galgo who tried to chew off his leg.
Cristina writes:

‘I just want to tell you that Kafir was operated last Friday 8th January and the operation was a total success. The rest of his hind leg has been amputed and it was a wonderful job of our spanish vet, who sadly is already used to these kind of operations.

Poor Kafir had a bad waking up from anesthesy as he was crying very much and felt totally confused. He stayed in the clinic during the night and I went there to bring him his favourite rice with chicken and carrots for his dinner.

Kafir with cat 0110 250 He was deeply sleeping when I arrived at about 19:00 h and when I entered the clinic and asked for him, I could hear an incredible and loud howl. Clients who were waiting to see the vet were so shocked, and the vet said, ” no problem, everything is fine, we have a galgo inside and he just heared his mummy has arrived “. I was so surprised, he touched my heart so deeply.

As soon as I saw him there, lying on his bed with the whey on, so sad but making a big effort to move and greet me…I spent with him more than an hour and he relaxed and fell again in a deep sleep while his head was resting on me.

On the next morning I drove to the clinic to pick him up. He already managed quite well to get to the car although I had to lift him (30 kg – and without one leg!) inside. He was so happy to be home again. I don’t know what this poor dog must have thought when he again woke up in a suffering…

Kafir in coat 0101 250 Well, now he’s getting stronger, eating very well, and crying very softly whenever he wants to be lifted up on the sofa and whenever he wants to get down again. Only 3 days have passed from the operation but yesterday we already could make a longer walk with my dogs and he’s getting stronger every day.

Kafir is just such an incredible strong galgo. But he’s so sensitive and sweet that I don’t understand how he could overcome all the pain and suffering he had. That’s something I always wonder about. I”s astonishing how these dogs manage to cope with pain through their whole lives.

I have to confess, my husband wants to keep Kafir but I’m sorry, I’m not ready yet since I lost my galgo so recently. If Kafir had come into my life at another time, I’m sure I could have kept him but now, although I love him very much, I still see my galgo’s eyes in every corner of my home, even in Kafir’s eyes.

Please can we find that family who will be the ONE for this jewel? He deserves only the best.

If you are that special person to give Kafir only a good life in the future, please contact L’Europe des Levriers. UPDATE; Cristina’s husband won and Kafir has been adopted by them!

And if you are concerned about a 3-legged dog, then read about Sari, which is another beautiful galga Cristina rescued from being severely injured on a motorway. Sari is now a very healthy happy speedy galga in her forever home with friends of mine.

    Dear all,
I want to thank all people who care about Kafir and for the nice comments I got. Thank you Rebecca for your mail. I will think about it…Thank you Craig for the presents for Kafir. If he would only know how many people care about him..
I will keep you posted about his recovering. Today he’s not feeling as good as yesterday. He has some liquid in his wound and I will talk to vet. I’ll probably go there tomorrow for a general checking.
Thank you for caring and for all your support. It feels good to have all of you around.
    xxx

    Cristina de Luna,
    Where is this dog, Kafir?
If he can be brought to the states I would adopt him. I have fostered several greyhounds and have two Italian Greyhounds right now. Let me know how I can help Kafir.
