Urgent appeal from Greyhound Rescue Holland – Campaign – email them before 25th August.

I have received this appeal from Greyhound Rescue Holland to Galgo Rescue Organisations – and anyone else who would like to help..

Over the weekend we have sent out an invitation to more than 70 international rescue organizations involved in galgo rescue to join our EU campaign. We are hoping for a good response.

The letter to the organizations is below. Click on the links for the draft letter plus outline for the MEP’s. This is the English version. The French, German, Belgian and Spanish foundations have received the mails in their own language.

Despite our research, we might have missed the names of some organizations that would like to join as well. Since your site is read by almost everyone in galgoland, (thank you for your kind words) we kindly ask you to mention our campaign on your site and ask those organizations that wish to join as well to send an e-mail to pr@greyhoundsrescue.nl confirming your support of our campaign. Since the letters to the MEP’s will be sent by the end of August, the deadline is 25th August.

LETTER

Dear Galgo Friends,

For a long time now the galgo rescue organizations have fought to end the atrocious circumstances many of the Spanish galgos are living under. Numerous Spanish foundations have proven to be a lifeline for many galgos in need, with the indispensible help and support of organizations outside Spain. And over the last years, we have also seen the important initiatives of petitions and letter writing campaigns to influence the authorities.

With the new Strategy for Animal Welfare being drafted and to be presented in December 2011, as well as the emerging interest for dog management within the EU, it seems to be an opportune time for another campaign. In June, we approached the Dutch MEP and a vice-chairman of the Intergroup for Animal Welfare, Miss Liotard and her team to ask for their support and action concerning the Spanish galgos. After some e-mail correspondence, they agreed to seriously explore if there are any options on a European level and try to get the issue to the forefront. However, they advised us to also approach other parties to illicit more support.

We will therefore write to all the fifteen other MEP’s of the Intergroup, the Spanish MEP Mr. P. Rodrigues and the Eurogroup simultaneously at the end of the summer recess on August, 30th. The letter and short outline can be found in the attachment. This way we want to raise once again the issue of galgos within the broader scope of animal welfare within the EU.

In order to have more impact, we look to you and all the other international organizations involved for support. We respectfully ask you to co-sign these letters as an organization. You can easily do this by sending us a mail with the name of your organization and a “YES” or “NO” . Of course we will keep you informed about all further developments.

We sincerely hope that you will give this campaign your support and thus support to the ongoing struggle to improve the lives of thousands of galgos.
