Adda petition to the government of Castilla La Mancha, Spain

‘Galgos are eliminated each year at the end of the season. Considered as hunting tools, they are treated as waste material if they don’t comply with the expectations that are required or when they cease to be useful. Many of these animals are sentenced to die in the most cruel and slow way. Images of galgos hanged, beaten, thrown into wells… constitute irrefutable evidence of this shameful, absurd and reprehensible practice against noble, sensitive and helpless beings.

This unfortunate and unjustified destination is added to by massive over-breeding in miserable conditions of food and maintenance of many of these beautiful hounds are kept in sheds or buildings without the minimum conditions of hygiene, health or well-being; most of them without registration or identification, they leave only when they have to go out hunting.

Despite repeated complaints made by associations and citizens, this situation continues repeating without implementing any effective solutions to this problem

We know that as a result of the hunting method called “hunting with galgo” thousands of these animals are abandoned or condemned to die in the cruelest way possible. Images of galgos hanged, beaten and mistreated constitute irrefutable evidence of this shameful and reprehensible practice. The massive and indiscriminate breeding, the miserable conditions of food and maintenance of many of them live in, sheds and buildings without the minimum conditions of hygiene, health or well-being, are part of this anomalous and unjustifiable situation. Despite repeated complaints made by entities and citizens, this situation continues repeating without any effective solutions implemented to solve this problem.

For all these reasons we request compliance with the commitment to carry out without delay, a new Act on the protection of animals to replace the current completely obsolete one. With this petition we also support 27.603 requests of the citizens, since the year 2009 have previously been delivered to this Presidency.
