A year or so back I publicised a campaign to stop greyhounds being exported to China for racing. I mentioned that some of the Australian greyhounds were sent to the Far East, which provoked some lively discussion from Australian greyhound trainers/breeders. There is a campaign running at the moment to protest against greyhounds being sent to Macau. Here’s apetition to stop the export of Australian greyhounds. Please sign and also read on, as there are two more petitions to sign.
Here’s the protest about dogs being cooked alive – in China, where else!
http://www.change.org/petitions/dogs-baked-alive-ban-this-now
Dogs are suffering a hellish death by being baked alive for a ‘better
flavor’, due to extreme release of stress hormone adrenaline. Needs no
explanation, but this is important to save innocent dogs from this
unspeakable horror and restore some common decency for the good humans in
China, who object to this.
It is legal and accepted and encouraged in China to put dogs into sacs
alive, and then into ovens to bake them alive!! We know the government and
culture in China has difficulty seeing that animals must not be tortured. In
China they are subjected to the unthinkable, of being skinned while alive
and conscious for furs, beaten to make their meat more tender, cats boiled
alive for food, dogs baked, and many more obvious offenses and atrocities.
The culture looks at animal rights as ‘laughable’ and the only way to exert
pressure for change is with boycotting of tourism, and products. Sanctions
are necessary, but the U.S. government won’t do that….we are in financial
debt to China.
Here’s the protest about the greyhounds in the Macau Canidrome.
Please read the most recent article about the Macau Canidrome written by Simon Parry. As you will see the race track are ignoring all campaigns and pleas by us and international animal and greyhound protection groups and it is business as usual for the Canidrome in MURDERING their dogs once they are no longer deemed fit for the purpose of racing.
The brilliant greyhound campaign group Grey2KUSA, Animals Australia and now Animals Asia are involved in this campaign to close the track but are all being dissed by the Canidrome, so we are now putting out an international appeal to all our supporters to take this to the next level by asking you to please contact the Chief Executive of Macau to ask him to help shut down the Canidrome. His details are as follows :
Name : Fernando Chui Sai On
Mailing address : Avenida da Praia Grande, Sede do Governo da RAEM, MACAU
Fax : (853) 2872 5468 / 2872 6168
Email : info@macau.gov.mo
Also please contact the Macau government using their online contact form-
http://www.cip.gov.mo/web/public/index.jsf?article=suggestion (I’m asking for a translation of the boxes!)
Please remember to keep all correspondence polite.
Please tell the authorities that the Macau Canidrome has to close as an issue of
morality. The continual murder of innocent animals will not be tolerated.
Please also tell them that the Canidrome are ignoring offers of help for the dogs and are continually killing greyhounds that are no longer useful for racing. Please explain that many people around the globe have now learnt of this holocaust for greyhounds at Macau via the internet and that tourism will now be greatly affected with many people boycotting Macau. This will undoubtedly affect them financially.
The Canidrome has to close with immediate affect and all the greyhounds found loving homes via international rescues.
With the continual use of facebook and other internet related ways of communication the world has become a very small place whereby concerned groups and individuals can support each other in order to help animals albeit the other side of the world. We all have a duty to protect animals wherever they are in the world and these innocent greyhounds are suffering and dying continually at the hands of those that have no care or regard for their welfare.
It’s sickening that this can still happen in the 21st century therefore we must all do everything we can to stop this hence this important appeal to all our national and international supporters.
EVERY LETTER COUNTS FROM AROUND THE WORLD FROM THOSE THAT CARE ABOUT THE SUFFFERING OF SENTIENT BEINGS

South China Morning Post

A Hong Kong-based animal welfare group has written to Macau Chief Executive
Dr Fernando Chui Sai-on, asking him to close the city’s greyhound racing
track where hundreds of healthy dogs are put to death every year.
Animals Asia wrote to Chiu and Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture
Cheong U after inspecting conditions at the Canidrome, where a Sunday
Morning Post (SEHK: 0583, announcements, news) investigation found dogs were
destroyed by lethal injection at a rate of more than one a day. The group
said it found dogs “in a state of neglect” at the circuit.
“Dogs with injuries were forced to run while a crowd of less than 30 people
looked on,” it said. “Greyhound racing isn’t attracting people to the races,
but the greyhounds are still suffering.
“Even minimum welfare standards are not provided for the greyhounds; when
not racing, they’re confined for long periods of time. When they race, they
often sustain serious injuries.”
Animals Asia animal welfare director David Neale said: “Racing greyhounds
for entertainment inflicts severe suffering on many thousands of dogs
annually.
“A large proportion of greyhounds bred for racing are deemed unsuitable and
are euthanised, along with those that become injured, or are simply not
considered fast enough.
“Greyhound racing is an example of animal cruelty that should be consigned
to the history books.”
The Animals Asia investigation follows a January report by Grey2K USA, which
found that from October 21 to December 31 last year, 302 of the 655 imported
racing dogs at the Canidrome suffered injuries – equivalent to four animals
a day. The Sunday Morning Post reported last year that 383 greyhounds were
put down at the Canidrome in 2010, most of them healthy dogs aged five to
six years.
Apart from the injured, dogs are retired when they fail to finish in the top
three for two or three consecutive races. Because the Canidrome will not
release former racing dogs for adoption, all retired dogs are killed.
The Canidrome has so far declined to comment and has not responded to any of
the petitions or letters from animal welfare groups.

Hi Jen
Thanks for all your support. I did post the
news that the galga with the tumour in Gesser was taken by Silvia in Valencia,
so that one is ok, as are all the others which were there with her.
However, Jerez galgos are struggling…..sickening that everyone is overwhelmed
with them, and the authorities do nothing except kill them! Keep
supporting, keep writing.
