Beryl, thank you very much for providing so much news of the galgos – in spite of the problems you encounter, you do a fantastic job here.
I want to start making regular, though small donations to help get galgos out the pererras, some of the organisations which post here have web pages and FB where everyhting can be followed. What I wondered was, for posts like the above for the Jerez galgos, can I assume that if they are posted here, they are genuine and if I contact them to send money, it will reach the galgos? Just want to be sure of this and there are so many unscrupulous people out there. Thank you, and best wishes.
hi fiona the way i think it works is the people who appeal on galgo news are people who work there or people who keep an eye on the perreras then appeal for a rescu to take them but in most cases its down to room and main thing money i am in contact with the girl called maribel who is appealing again for the jerez galgos i do a table top every sat to raise money for appeals for rescues if you can put small donations through regular i wounder if beryl would be able to contact a rescue who could take them and me and you could donate what we can over the next couple of month just an idea

I try as much as possible to ensure that the
appeals I post are genuine. I know in the past some unscrupulous people
have sent out appeals for donations, and then pocketed the money. I have
tried as far as possible to combat this, by posting mostly appeals from
associations, or from someone I know of. Maribel does an amazing job
circulating appeals and I feel that those which come via her are also
genuine. I suggest people contact the appellant direct as many people in
Spain also read GN. And I have a couple of marvellous bilingual
translators, one English, one Spanish, who I also trust to ensure that an
appellant is genuine.
I would say, please do not send any money, unless
it is to an association, or to someone who has a Paypal account. The
appeals about dogs in the perreras are to illustrate to the world just how many
galgos are end up in the killing stations – because the hunters continue to deny
this happens! And it also backs up to everyone just how many of these dogs
the galgueros dispose of. But the price now put on getting a dog out of a
killing station is for associations to pay, not individuals.
Money is tight for all of us. We all want to
help. At the end of the day, the best insurance that your money will go
towards helping a galgo or podenco is to an association, or to the two or three
people like Imaculada in Seville, rescuing podencos from a gypsy settlement, and
with whom a friend of mine translates and liaises.

I prefer to leave it to everyone to choose for
themselves which appeal and association or volunteer they wish to donate
to. Through my fundraising, book and notelet sales, I respond to different
appeals. My idea of GN PP has always been to publicise and support
many different associations. It doesnt matter who makes the appeal, at
the end of the day its all about the dogs. But dont send money for the
perrera dogs. Those appeals are to associations who may have room for the
dogs – some perreras quite rightly wont let a dog out unless it is to an
association. Other unscrupulous ones will sell a galgo to a
hunter…..Stick with donations to associations for a particular dog, as they
will be paying vet fees, kennel fees etc.

Just to reiterate, you cant donate to get the dogs
out of the perreras. Only associations or – if the perrera is not so good
– individuals on site can take the dogs. You are better donating to the
associations who take the dogs, which I post on GN PP if they send me the
info. For example, the Gesser galgos last week – Pro-Galgo and Galgo
Connection Spain took a couple of dozen.

Thank you Beryl, this is what I needed to know. I will redouble my efforts to make people aware and hopefully persuade them also to adopt. It is heartbreaking that so many just wont escape. Thankfully there are stories like Grace and Kena and many others who find saftey through the huge efforts of many kind people. Without these people, it would be so easy to hate and despise mankind. And I think this sexist term has a lot of justification here!
hi beryl ye thats what i mean the appeals come on from certain people for rescues to take them on i am willing to small donations through every week for the next 2 month for food for the galgos if they are rescued by rescue i know its not much but every little helps
I had an email reply from Maribel, I think it suggests that Refugio Kimba is willing to take four of these galgos if the money is raised to release them, but I dont know if that was needed today, as they had been posted as being killed by the end of this week, thats today or tomorrow. I cant sort out banking now till Monday and that is probably too late and too little.
