You may remember earlier in the year I posted the story of Voyka a young galgo found abandoned, who had co-ordination problems with walking, possibly as a result of a blow to the head. This is an urgent appeal for an adoption for him, to save him going back to the kennels. There was an adoption application but, after extensive research, it was not deemed the right home for him. Because of his physical problems, he needs a really special home, with another dog, where his disability will not cause a problem. This is the report from Lourdes, who has him in her care.
TORREDELCAMPO (JAEN)
a partner found in Linares a male ggalgo thrown on the soil without being able to move, so (21st March 2012) I went to gather it to take to the garage / mini refuge refuge of reception where there are 8 more dogs. I was told it could not walk. He ist is not lame. has has problems of co-ordination and walks as if it was drunk; he eats and drinks ok. I was crying and was cursing the hunter who has left it.
The veterinarian said that its condition is due to the fact that they have given him a VERY STRONG BLOW IN THE HEAD.
He adores being caressed, love sother dogs, tries to walk etc and sometimes he can even run.
On April 3 they did a radiography to him in the skull – column and nothing is seen.
but the veterinarian believes that it is a question of the syndrome of Wobbler (a linkage with information: /
On April 21 a partner of Madrid came to extract blood to Voyka and on the 23rd we knew the results of the test of several illnesses: negative on all leishmania, erlichia, anaplasma, borrelia and filaria.
On May 7 we castrated himt and Ihe was moved to foster, where he was vaccinated etc.
Voyka waits to be adopted but it will have to be a responsible adoption, someone who completely is sure that he(she) wants a real love and the most important thing, THAT KNOWS HOW TO DEAL WITH VOYKA’S PROBLEM. He is on good terms with males and with females always wants to play… the problem if there are other dogs that although they have good character, when Voyka loses co-ordination, then the others see it like a threat and attack him…
If he is not adopted soon, he will have to go back to the refuge where there won’t be time to help him develop.

NB I fostered a lovely Podenca Andaluz which had a similar problem, the vet diagnosis was the same, a blow to the head/back of the neck. Nothing to be done, possibly nerve damage. But Dulce was an extremely happy podenca and found a wonderful couple to love her for the rest of her life.
