Some galgos are lucky enough – if you can call it lucky to survive several years at the hands of a galguero – to reach 7 or even 10 years of age. They desperately need to live out the rest of their lives in the comfort of a loving home, and here are three.
Elsa and Maika are particularly sad stories and an example of the hypocrisy of the Spanish authorities. Siblings, rescued at 3 yrs by a lady and taken into her home, 7 years later they find themselves in a shelter. With so many abandoned dogs living on the streets of Spain, it’s hard not to want to help them, and this is the situation in which Elsa and Maika’s Mom found herself.
What started off with one dog became 3 and eventually 10! The authorities stepped in and said ‘ the dogs have to go’! This is where the hypocrisy arises – why don’t these same authorities do the same with the galgueros and gitanos who keep their dogs in diabolical conditions and often in greater numbers!
Poor Elsa and Maika. Both these beautiful gals are microchipped, vaccinated, sterilised, blood tests negative. Both galgas need to be back in homes as soon as possible. If they can be rehomed together, it would be marvellous, but can be adopted separately. Photo of me with Elsa, Maika is the brindle.

Gloria is in the Pedro Munoz refuge at Ciudad Real. She has had a hard life as a breeding machine. Now no longer required by the galguero for this purpose, she finds herself in the shelter, and hoping that someone might offer her a comfy sofa in a warm home. Contact SOS Levriers about her.
Many bitches used for breeding have their puppies taken away at 4 weeks old and the galgas are sent back out to hunt…

poor poor souls its so clear now that the law in spain is on the hunters side and not the rescues its like the law is trying to break the rescues and the caring people who rescue them its heart wrenching it really is for these poor dogs and the rescues i do hope someone comes fwd for these galgas and so hope the 2 with charl get homed together
Spain, stop being so bloody cruel to these dogs !! This week we hear of the mindless cruelty inflicted on a puppy dog by throwing acid all over it’s body and making it swallow acid, you demented -rseholes !!
How come every day we read of horrendous pain inflicted to animals in Spain, still little wonder when your “king” is involved in shooting bears and boars, vicious bastard !!
And the outrageous killing of bulls everyday of the week. Yes, Spain is on top of the league in football, but damned near the top of the league in abuse and killing to an array of animals. You lot in Spain have the audacity to come with your begging bowls to the European union for bailouts every month or so, and they in turn, stupid prats give you
millions of euros supporting the bloody bullfighting industry.
Well said, Barry. Im sure all GN readers will agree with you.
