Ines gives us the updates on galgo Duke and an appeal for financial help to pay for the cost of transporting Duke from Portugal down to Malaga to 112carlotagalgos.
‘For those of you that remember Estrela, the galga rescued last Christmas, she left behind her son, partner and younger brother at the hands of her evil owner. There was nothing we could do legally except negotiate with her owner eventually handing in all the dogs.
Duke was suffering from pneumonia and severe diarrhoea when his owner finally gave him to us but is now recovering. Not much, but a small victory for these poor galgos…
UPDATE 12/10/13: Duke has recovered from diarrhoea and is still being medicated for pneumonia. He is extremely fearful and will not allow anyone to approach him, not even lure him with food. Duke hasn’t had a sponsor yet, but will hopefully recover soon and be up for adoption. We are desperately out of space, and have no room at all, therefore having to house the animals in improvised shelters. Duke needs a caring home urgently, and someone that understands his fears and mistrust of people. Please share so we can find Duke and his mates a good loving family as soon as possible.
UPDATE 24/11/13: Duke is slowly adjusting to his new life. He has been moved to a different space to allow the building work, and is now healthy and fully recovered. Duke is great with other dogs, but still quite wary of people, showing the abuse he suffered. He is scared of loud noises and sudden movements and needs to be slowly rehabilitated. Duke is fully vaccinated, wormed, chipped and passported, and is soon going down to 112carlotagalgos for rehabilitation to prepare him for adoption.
Thank you all that helped Duke’s recovery. Now we need to cover the transport costs. Please paypal comdelrio@hotmail.com, mark if ‘gift’ and Duke.’

Hi all, many thanks for your support. Chris Marshall will be transporting Duke, and since he’ll be in Portugal at the time, he will only charge €50 for the journey. We are a bit stuck since the kennels came down, and Duke’s passport, jabs and treatment for pneumonia have made a dent on the budget. So it shouldn’t be hard to raise €50, so any help much appreciated. Many thanks
did the 50 get raised i donated befor this coment came on
Checking as Chris picks Duke up on the 10th and will need paying then.
Thank you to everyone who donated to Duke’s transport costs. Chris Marshall is picking him up in Portugal and, as he was already going there, he is only charging 50 euros to take Duke down to Charl on the 10th December. So again, thank you all for donating, the total needed has been achieved.
