Updates – Gala, Tico, Foguete

Scooby Gala saviour 250 12 2013GALA: (from Cobie at Scooby) She gave milk so the vet made an echography and from the form of the uterus he could see that she had given birth very recently. A galguero would never murder a litter of real galgos so probably it wase mixes. He stole them from her, probably mad because of the mixes, murdered them and hung her in a tree to die.

Better nobody tells us who the bastard is who did this to her, because really, I swear…! She is not just sweet but super, super, super sweet and bravely trying to forget the horror which came over her the last few days!! Galgos…they are just amazing…! The first picture is Gala with her saviour, a few moments after he cut her loose from the tree, milles gracias de corazon!!!!! The other picture shows Gala enjoying the sun and the other dogs´company.

Portugal Dog Rescue Foguete 250 1 9 12 2013UPDATE 12/12/13: Sadly Foguete had an epileptic fit this afternoon, and scared all that were around him, who felt powerless to help. Even with a wooden spoon in his mouth he managed to bite his tongue and now has a small cut. We spoke to the vet who told Teresa this was expected, as it’s common in neurological damage to develop epilepsy. It does not mean it’s permanent, but he will start epilepsy medication tomorrow. He felt better later this evening, so was taken for a walk in the village to try and cheer him up.

He also appears to have become incontinent, Teresa found him wet and he pooped himself during the night, the poor thing looked so embarrassed he would just look down in shame. But we’re far from giving up on him, and as long as he’s happy, we’re happy. We’ll keep fighting until he gets the loving life he deserves. Thank you so much to all that have helped him so far.

Ines explains, Hi all, the prosecution against the owner needs to come from the municipal vet. Fortunately he is good friends with Teresa and has followed every animal cruelty case that came from this man. He has an history of abusing animals, not only Estrela, Duke and Foguete, but he still holds on to Esperança, Estrela’s daughter who has remained with him in exchange for him allowing Teresa to take Estrela away. Teresa, the vet and SEPNA (the equivalent of RSPCA) are working together to prosecute and forbid this man from ever having an animal again. We first need to get Esperança out. It’s not easy as this man has an histoy of violence for which he has been arrested several times, but the case is not forgotten and the abuse complaints are pilling up against him. We will update as it evolves. Thank you

TICO. Update from Sandra – Good morning, yesterday he had the last injection of Inconvinient (60 euros). We have withdrawn the meloxicam, and he will be on amoxicillin until Sunday. When the vet approached the hand to touch his hind legs, Tico gathered, as saying, “not ever”.We have to be happy; in less than a week, his hind legs have regained much stronger. On January 6 we begin rehabilitation. We trust him. And this weekend a team from Galgo Support Holland are visiting.

Gala is doing very well at Scooby Residencia Valladolid, she especially loves whipped cream from an aerosol can, and sleeping on the sofa with the other galgos.
And Foguete has stopped having fits. No news on his eyesight yet.

UPDATE 21/12/13: For those who remember, Estrela and Foguete had more offspring, two of whom remained with their horrible owner to replace their mum Estrela. This was the only way we could get Estrela out. Esperança is one of those pups, she was now rescued by Teresa as she was let loose and ended up being ran over by a car. She was taken to the vet and has a nasty luxation that will need surgery or she will stop growing altogether and will get a life time injury that won’t heal. Like Foguete, Esperança is severely emaciated and extremely fearful of people, especially men. She loses control of her bladder out of fear and will need a long recovery. She is also so used to live in poor conditions, that she refuses her bed and sleep in the hard cold cement floor instead. She is being medicated for pain and has an X-ray booked in Animalia, the animal hospital in Beja, and will also need help to treat her leg. Foguete has meanwhile been diagnosed with an extra systolic heartbeat as a consequence of the overdose, and is now on heart medication to avoid arrytmia, and Teresa was warned to be careful as poor Foguete can have another cardiac arrest without warning. Thank you all that have sent them specialist food, so far Teresa hasn’t received any other item, but is most grateful for all your help. THANK YOU

Jane and Jenny, please can you advise me what Teresa needs? I may have missed a post on here, so would be really grateful if you could let me know where to find out what she needs or if a donation would be best? A reminder of the PayPal address would be good too. I can donate or send something tomorrow, so please get back to me, as I want to help.

OK thanks Jenny that is what I will do tomorrow. I would really like to go to the event in Manchester. Too cold to take dogs, especially senior chap who would be most put out! He is now used to a life of luxury and a warm and cosy bed! So this means I would have to go on my own, train there and back. I am working the next day so it is also dependent on the weather but I would so like to go. Will keep you updated. Also I saw a picture of Rey on Carlota galgos website of dogs who have been adopted. He is lovely, a black beauty! Hope you are feeling a bit better. It is awful all the suffering that goes on but at least there are some great rescues with people supporting them. Just have to keep hoping and praying and trying to do what we can. Hope you have a happy Christmas x
