I have just watched it. Dogs living in freezing conditions, in slurry, nowhere to sleep, concrete floor soaked in urine, vomit, excrement, no clean water, no food, disease must be rife, a dead dog, a big white dog next to the dead dog bleeding with injured leg, terribly ill, sores all over body, terrified dogs huddled together, a dog desperately trying to feed her puppies, dogs just lumped in together, hungry, frozen, sick, terrified, in pain, injured, elderly dogs scared, hopeless, traumatised, young dogs bewildered, terrified. I feel really, really angry. This is totally unacceptable. Beryl, is there anything more that can be done to try and stop this?
jenny

Don’t watch it Jenny, it’s very upsetting. You can imagine it and I don’t blame people for not wanting to watch it. I have described what can be seen if people don’t want to watch and I feel really upset and angry. The images never leave me, I am always thinking about it. That’s why I want to know if there is anything else that can be done. I have joined ACTIN and will keep donating. It’s just if I watch or read about something distressing, then I want to be able to help or do something constructive, even if it’s just signing a petition. I don’t just want to watch and do nothing. I know there is only so much we can do living here in the UK but I just want to try and make a difference. I know that what I contribute is a drop in the ocean but I want to at least try. All I can say is a big thank you to the rescues and the campaigners, people like Viv at ACTIN, truly remarkable, outstanding people.

Beryl, I have just seen more info on your post ‘Pride of Seville’ about signing PACMA petition. I must have missed this. Am going to sign petition and look on PACMA website for info, thank you.

Beryl, I have just watched this undercover filming of these poor creatures, all of them so very scared and wondering what the hell they must have done wrong to end up in this state…Beryl, who is the person responsible for this wretched place?. Can you let me know their name AND how to contact them? If you can, then they will be hearing from me.. I live near Alicante and have a corral up in the mountains with my 7 rescued dogs from local Charities – all of which came to me with problems, but nothing compared to what i have just seen..
Jeffrey, are you on facebook? If so, a page has been set up about the situation. Quedada Perrera Mairena https://www.facebook.com/events/128375664004106/?fref=ts
So far as who is concerned, I understand the place is/was privately owned. Sociedad Protectora de Animales y Plantas de Sevilla SPAP. The names of 3 groups appear in the comments – ASANDA being one and PACMA who I mention above. I suggest you contact PACMA as they are a very strong non-political group with a strong voice.
One comment now says that there was a perrera in Benidorm which used to be similar and because of the outcry, conditions have been improved.
If you join ACTIN, they are looking into the situation at another perrera.
thanks for caring – keep me posted how you go on.
Jeffrey, you could try contacting this email address – there are podencos in Mairena being shown on my Podenco Post facebook page – haven’t had time to check on current situation – English speakers here adopcionsosas@gmail.com
I’ve just copied this of the page of For the Love of Dogs and Cats on fb who are volunteers trying to get some of the dogs out.
Our reserved dogs will still be coming out, the perrera is closed today (Friday) due to the demonstration, there are so many dogs in there many still needing adopters and or sponsors.
So looks like the report that Seprona and the Guardia Civil were taking them all was incorrect.
jenny
well done to you jeffrey im behind you all the way if i lived there i would going down to that devil place
In fact I wondered about the Spanish authorities why they do not appear there immediately to close down the whole facility until the responsible person is stopped creating such a mess?
The Seprona visits private households when someone reports animal cruelty but they do not do anything about this situation?
That would be pretty strange indeed.
However, when checking out the Facebook site, someone commented there, that the authorities now have taken control of the situation in this perrera.
But note, that some perreras simply kill the animals before oncoming holidays (in the summer, too), to be able to enjoy the holiday with no need to care for the impounded dogs and cats. Or at least that is what I heard…
jenny
the same volunteers as last year beryl and i noticed they will need adopters and sponsors i can help with donation but cant help with addoption at the moment keep us updated on here well i hope its true that the authoritys have took responsibilty in the decent way and get them poor souls looked after properly untill a new animal orientated person can take over and i hope they goe through every bad disgusting perrera in spain and do the same and the crettings who have run these hell holes get prosecuted to the max and that would be to tame for them in my opinion all the poor dogs that have suffered in these places for years and lost thier dear little life at the end and even that wasnt done out of respect for thier last breath the way it as been sescribed in past news you disgust me you crettings trating sentient beings in the way you have oh how they must of cried for love and a rescue bless all the poor souls who have gone never forget them and never will forgive what the scum as done to them oh and the authorities have acted to damn late so many little little babies suffered and died at the hands of shite
The owner of Mairena, I am told, is a vet who will have friends who are politicians on the local and provincial councils, judges, lawyers, policemen – we all know corruption is endemic in Spain (and many other countries of course) so that could well be why nothing gets done here. We can only hope that, because of the public outcry and publicity, something gets done. we can only hope….
jenny
some thing as got to be done other wise whats the point of law so this could be a case of do as i tell you not as i do figure of speech across the board man his self ruines this earth and the beuty in it
Further information on the owner of Mairena perrera and his connections.
Cobie in Scooby Valladolid on my fb page Save the Galgo –
I think it´s bullshit that all the dogs will be removed. The owner from Mairena is the nephew from the boss from Seprona, it´s a rich family from toreadors and bulls etc. and the perrera was many times on tv as being bad! Nothing happened because this is Spain! The owner has said that tomorrow the people who want to adopt may enter after first paying 40,- euros for the microchip and passport. So, tomorrow they will receive a bag full of money and in a few weeks, when the storm has blown over, the cages will be filled with other victims. That´s the way it has gone for years and so it will continue…!!! Because, again, this is Spain!

Devastating news, Beryl. I’ve been following this event on FB and really thought that they were going to get somewhere. With the protest, media coverage, supporters going today to take away dogs, I really thought this could start changing things and this place would be closed down. But if this is correct about the ownership, no chance. Heartbroken.
Kathryn
It is devastating and it’s obvious that these people are hand in glove with each other, you scratch my back and I will scratch yours. Viv from ACTIN said that lots of their documentation is ‘mysteriously’ going missing when submitted to those in authority. I know all of the dogs were in a terrible state but I can’t get the image of the big white dog out of my head, he was so ill and in pain. My heart just broke when I saw him. He is pictured on the PACMA petition and I saw him on the undercover film footage, next to the dead dog. I can’t stop thinking about him.
Agree. Angie. There is a video now on facebook of a group meeting with the owner and asking that he sign a paper agreeing to call an extraordinary general meeting to discuss the conditions there and what to do about it, and he flatly refuses.
Translation of a notice for Thursday.
CALL SPECIAL ASSEMBLY MEMBERS OF PROTECTIVE, PARTNERS CLINIC HESPERIDES STREET, AND PARTNERS CLINIC SPAPs BEDS.
was informed that the next Thursday night January 23, 2014, 20:00 A special meeting will be held in the theater the local shipyard in the town of bormujos, to try and fix the problematic protective, please attend all potential partners, as more than 500 partners are required to have a say
jenny
hope this figure is reached for the sake of the dogs
