Galga Bronca at Pepis Refuge – the Donor Dog

Pepis Bronca 250Jane at Pepis Refuge says ‘On a few occasions our vet has to do a blood transfusion and calls upon us to provide a donor dog, normally a Galgo. This evening (13 2 2014) Bronca was a blood donor for a puppy Galgo who is in a serious condition. All the other dogs who have donated their blood have saved other dogs lives, let’s hope Bronca will do the same, bless her. Bronca was very calm and helpful throughout the whole process.

Bronca is a beautiful galga, her body covered in scars from the hard life before Pepis. The brand on her hind leg is often used by gitanos on their hounds.

If you can offer Bronca or any of the other dozen or so beautiful galgos at Pepis waiting for forever homes, please contact Jane.

Here’s a link to some of them, not up to date,I’m afraid, as Jane has to rely on someone else uploading the latest news. Since December another half dozen galgos have been left tied to the gates, as well as some small ones chucked over the fence! Approximately 80 dogs at the refuge now. So let’s find homes for the galgos, for a start.

Below is Mabel, left tied to the gate this week, in the wind and rain!

    Greyhounds (sighthounds)make fantastic blood donors.
I would not hesitate a minute to brand mark these group.
The clinic where some of my greys have been operated is always seeking blood donors, two of my dogs are still young enough to be donors.
I hope the puppy will survive.
Rescuers throughout Spain have a very heavy burden this time of year. Some have the fortune to be saved others by the dozens are killed.

@jenny at all face-book readers. Just a helpful advice when dogs go on airplane (cargospace)this time of year, please provide the dogs with coats as not all airlines have temperature controlsystems, it may be very cold and chilly for the many hours, furthermore the dogs are on stress which reduces even more their body temperatures, keeps them more calm and at ease with this kind of shell. This is my experience over the years. Happy travelling to their forever homes.

I have a monthly standing order set up for Pepis. I hope maybe others may consider this if they are able to. Jen, I have been thinking about Perica, the older galga at Pepis, she is beautiful. I hope they get people coming forward to adopt the dogs, Jane and Alan so need the support.

Jane and Alan were at the vets yesterday with 12 dogs – mainly galgos, plus Chico the podenco and Tzar the English Setter – and were pleased to see that the galgo puppy is much better after the blood transfusion.

jenny as I posted earlier I made coats for some greys staying in shelters in Ireland waiting for adoption, the lady is very pleased with the style of coats I have made. The coats stay where they should be as the collar and the special cut leaves the dogs sufficent room to be comfortly. I now make her some more to change and some extras for the ones in need.
Due to the extrem weather condition at present, all her dogs in care are safe and not ill. It is so nice to get a feedback for the work one does at least.

thats brilliant that you make coats for the greys in ireland because i know they suffer a lot there aswell the ones that are not lucky enough to get rescue i know the sort of coats you mean i have the same inside ones for mine what janes mam my friend makes but mine wont wear them they just like them put on top of them but in kennel situation they must in a house its different cause they always move around well mine do and even move beds through the night i made some myself and sent to charl and mo and a shelter in galati about 4 year ago and jane sent some aswell we only sent about 4 each to charl and mo cause of cost we sent more over to romania because we only had to get them to another city here in the uk for someone to take to galati for us in romania who do you help in ireland if you dont mind me asking where do you live

jenny her name is eila and lives in Limerik the kennels are also there.Fortunatly the ground is elevated so none of the dogs in the shelter are flooded. So many animals horses and dogs that are chained drowned,if they were not chained they could have escaped and survived. The lady gets no funds from the government or IGB as she rescues the dogs from ponds and as for greys they are the 1st ownes pts. So I design for her coates mini, maxi and she is able to sell them to cover the expense she has. Very loveable lady. Tonight 2 more greys made it safetly over the sea to be welcomed by my friends to be adopted.
Last weekend an emerceny call from Poland Greys were collected a greybitch with 7 pups sitting in a shelter without protection and food so we hastly collected food blankets and coats preventing them from death. Now they are here in Germany and cared for.
Jenny I used to put on coats on my galga as she needed it, but my greyboy being 16 this year loves his light blanket.

ok kathrina does this lady have a website in ireland it is wounderful what she does especially from the dog pounds didnt know they had greyhounds i poland is there anywhere thase poor souls are not now poor girl with her pups so pleased she was saved does the lady in ireland have her own kennels or does she pay rent for them for the greys i know you say she takes from the pounds so pleased about that one i well know the situation for greys and horses in ireland you know it makes you think if they are safe in any country

Jenny, I did not asked her if she has to pay rent for the kennels, I shall find out. Eila does not have her own website but her friends do thats where the coats will be offered. She is a mother of 4 children and does all this work besides her family. It is not so common finding people in ireland that care for the greys and lurchers. I do what I can to help getting the dogs ready for adoptions.
Poland has indeed greys and their own race chart polski, the complete greyfamily was able to come over here, mama pups and daddy so at least we know the entire family.
Romania has imported Greys and Galgos as well, mainly for illegal hunting, there is no racetrack in romania. Just terrible faith for both races. Not enough tears for each poor soul left with all this tragic being a grey or galgo.
Thank you for your interest Jenny.
