Protest march May 21, 2016

Saturday May 21 was the day, after long preparations and discussions with the police and the municipality of The Hague began the protest against dog torture in Spain. 500 dogs and their owners gathered at the Malieveld … what a fantastic turnout. At 11 o’clock the march, under the supervision of police and volunteer tutors towards the Spanish consulate where a representative of the consulate would adopt a dossier prepared by us. Dossier Patri many examples of abuses including photos did, a picture is often worth a thousand words …

In front of a large banner walked beside our president Esther Versluijs, Patri of the shelter Galgos del Sur and MEP from the Party for the Animals Mrs. Anja Hazekamp. All three ladies have for the Spanish consulate in the Lange Voorhout had their say. Because the turnout was so huge, it was unfortunately not well understood by all … but the intention why we stood there all together was evident.

500 survivors of atrocities and their owners made himself strong enough, dumping annually abuses, suffering, burning, abuse, etc. to hang halt. We are a united Europe, there are rules how animals should deal. Spain also must adhere to European animal welfare rules! Thanks to all who have come together … we is stronger.

Thanks also to Dutch Galgo Lobby for donating the banner, unfortunately the big board could not stand against the fence of the embassy this morning put down by two of our volunteers (see photo). An embassy employee was kind enough to help the ladies to put the board on a big tree in the lawn. Mrs embassy deputy has promised to ensure that our manufacturing on file and would end our protest to the highest levels in Spain …

Proud of our president Esther Versluijs, proud Patri who came from Spain, along with two volunteers Eli and Antonio drove to the Netherlands. Proud Anja Hazekamp she has to hear her voice as a representative of the Party for the Animals, but above all … proud of all of us, whoever Saturday, May 21, 2016 has come with or without a dog to The Hague to make clear that this malpractice really can not.

Together with Mark ORuis‬ (researcher and lecturer in animal welfare at the hogeschool van hall larenstein from leeuwarden) and ‪Jesse Versteegh‬ (teacher and lawyer with specialization in European law and animals) we have at Anja Hazekamp (member of the European Parliament for ‪Parti Jvoordedieren‬) and ‪Sophie Rosseels‬, her personal assistant) the legal opportunities around the treaty of Lisbon and whether or not to apply the ‪#‎subsidiarity‬ discussed in the case of The mistreatment of the galgos in Spain. Although we don’t have it all figured out, it was a very positive content and good conversation, and we are convinced that there is another serious steps have been taken.
