In 2012 the Irish Department of Agriculture refused the Irish Greyhound Board a permit to export greyhounds to China. This ban appears to have been broken on 9th May 2016 when William and Robert Green attempted to transport 24 of their greyhounds to China but were stopped at Manchester and forced to return. Please write to the Irish Government to protest. Example letter below.
Dear Sir,
In 2012 the Irish Department of Agriculture officially refused the Irish Greyhound Board a permit to export greyhounds and open up dog racing in China! The government ruling stated that the plan offered by the Bord na gCon:
“…does not provide sufficient assurance that adequate provision would be made to safeguard the health and welfare of greyhounds in China at the end of their racing life.”
Please therefore explain to me why on 9th May William and Robert Green, greyhound breeders and trainers, were allowed to transport 24 of their greyhounds in a small van to to the UK for flights to Germany and onward transportation to China? Because of the uproar in the greyhound rescue community, they were stopped in Manchester and took the dogs back to Ireland.
Dog racing is illegal on mainland China and no dog tracks exist, but the Canidrome on the Chinese peninsula of Macau tolerates it. This is a video of Irish greyhounds being unloaded at Macau.

At the Canidrome, nearly 400 greyhounds are put to death each year. Dogs race four times a week. The head of Macau’s animal control department has stated that every greyhound arriving at the track is dead within three years.
I protest vehemently about Irish Greyhounds going to China. Please do everything you can to uphold the ban of 2012. Hundreds of thousands of caring people across the world have signed a petition to stop racing dogs going to China as they are deeply concerned about their fate. China has virtually no animal welfare, many dogs are skinned alive and used for their meat and fur.
Tourism to Ireland will be greatly affected because of the outpouring of bad publicity this case has created and therefore it would be in your own best interest to stop the export of Greyhounds to China and uphold and enforce the ban already in existence.
Yours

Thank you this is very helpful as I wasn’t sure where to write in protest. I will be writing a number of letters this week.
