Galgos 112 – saving the starving from the streets of Jaen, Spain

Galgos 112 1 170 20 6 2016Unbelievable that this poor galgo even has the strength to stand up.  How long can he have gone without food?  But he is now safe with Galgos 112.  Here’s what they say about him.

‘The years go by but we’re still surprising us by the same things. On the one hand the incredible strength of galgos and hounds, that as soon as they are given a chance they cling to life with a mad desire and exceed that which seemed impossible. On the other hand the indifference with which some humans treat others.

The of the pictures is Cuico, a galgo that was several days wandering in that state for the town in Jaen Martos. It’s getting complicated to understand that being in this state no one offer to help him.  Was it not clear that this dog needed help? This indifference to the suffering of others, in Galgos 112 we never get used to it. Never. It’s just that, plain and simple, we don’t want to do it; we don’t want to be indifferent to the pain of others, whoever it is that I’m having a tough time. Had to be Antonio, as always, who saw him and he laid his hand. Because Antonio has the gift of not being able to subtract indifferent to the pain and the abuse, Antonio has that what many brag but not so many times we see: Humanity.

Cuico has spent two nights admitted in Argos Veterinary Clinic in Torre del Campo.  He came up with a fever but luckily his diagnosis was mainly malnutrition and depression.  Every time a galgo or hound is rescued it surprises us with a life lesson. We admire innate strength with which nature has rewarded them, probably as a way to overcome the constant abuse to which they are subjected, by the Galgueros, yes, but also by the indifference of the majority.

In just 48 hours his expression no longer has anything to do with how he came in, he has received his first bath and we are convinced that in a few weeks Cuico, now weighing only 14.5 kg will soon weight much more.  He will be a spectacular galgo who will turn heads when walking with the family who one day will adopt him.

We thank the Antonios and the Marys of Jaen, those who never fail when they are needed, for having coordinated from the first second and have succeeded, once again, that the effort of an animal for survival gets his well-deserved reward.

Welcome to Galgos 112, Cuico,  from now on… To Live!
