Interesting article on how to teach your dog to use a crate. Apart from transporting dogs in vehicles/planes or possibly a dog shows, I am not a believer in using crates otherwise…particularly ‘toilet training’ a dog. I have had dogs all of my 70 years and have never had problems toilet training a dog without resorting to a crate. I knew one woman who crated her Weimaraners whenever I visited because she couldn’t control them! In my book, that was because they weren’t trained to behave. On another occasion I was told by a third party that a galgo I had rehomed was being crated and the children allowed to poke fingers at him! He was fine with the children and other dog when I did home tests/checks…to this day I don’t know why she crated him…I didn’t ask because I was so angry! Needless to say, I simply messaged that he was to be brought back to me immediately. Was fine with the grandchildren in his thereafter forever home.
We all have our own opinions on this subject, these are simply mine.

I have never used crates for anything especially not for my ex-racing greyhounds whom I get straight from track and kennels. I make them all a simple promise ” No bars to block your view no cage to limit your freedom or comfort. You are loved from this day and always and forever no more cages or crates ever again” I have never had any problems with any of them they are clean in the house and I never crate them at shows either I have them leashed and that is all I need to do to keep them safe. I bring blankets for them to lay on so they are happy and snug. No crates needed not ever.
Agree with you, never had a need to crate a dog.
I agree wholeheartedly in sure they have a place when you have a very nervous dog but otherwise why would you imprison an already abused dog .
I so agree with you…that’s also only my opinion.
It’s not even logical and I also have had dogs from pups and more than 50 years You don’t need to create the animal inside your house to train the poor dog.
Is this a fad now or what ?
