In the eyes of a galgo you can always see a hint of sadness, left over from something that will never be completely healed, the legacy of a suffering which has no release. Carried with dignity, but deep nevertheless.
In the eyes of a galgo you can see the request for food, affection, love, for a safe place where he can let himself go, where he can rest without the terror of waking up in hell.
In the eyes of a galgo you can see absolute devotion which never becomes servile, a proud gaze that scans the horizon, a hymn to freedom.
In the eyes of a galgo you can see the crafty and slightly cunning air of someone who has learned that man will beat you down if you seem too cocky.
When your gaze meets the eyes of a galgo and you open your heart, your way of seeing dogs changes forever. Thank you, Cabi, for all this.

This is so true, my galgo never got over his abuse at the hands of a sub human hunter in Spain. Even after some years of being with us he still flinched if we made any sudden arm of leg movements. He often used to wake up in terror until he realised where he was and then his eyes used to soften when he saw me or my husband. Beautiful Jake died some years ago now, he would have lived longer had he not been so mistreated in Spain. It still upsets me now when I think about what he went through. My Dad is not particularly a dog lover, not unkind just not dog crackers like me but he loved Jake, he won everyone over, big gentle lad that he was.
