‘Changes to the entry of rescue dogs to the UK basically if the UK exit the EU with a deal or no deal the Euro tunnel will no longer be a designated Border Inspection Point for Dogs, Cats or Ferrets.. Some months ago the ferry companies stopped accepting transports with rescue dogs on and the only point of entry was the Tunnel. If this is correct the only means of transport will be by plane to the UK very few airlines fly dogs to the UK and the last one we flew over cost 600 pounds plus the cost of the crate paid by the adopter so will be beyond the affordability of most people .. I can not confirm if this is accurate information but

I am aware many agencies have been lobbying to stop the import of foreign rescues due to animals arriving sick and with incorrect paper work. If anyone has any information regarding these changes please let us kno. This is a statement copied from a post by the group below

‼️‼️ please note the difference between pets and commercial imports! Pets travel on the pet passport scheme and NOT commercial Traces, therefore this does not apply to pets.

An explanation for why, after saying I would not be posting again, I did exactly that! After a year of fighting for change and trying to raise awareness, several things happened at once. Some I still can’t mention publicly but combined they were enough for me to continue for just a little while longer.

I’m not taking credit for any of the changes, just as I’m not to blame for all of the issues being experienced by those bringing in non compliant animals! The wording ‘selling’ etc is from source not my own!!

The subject has been on (Defra)’s radar for longer than I have been involved and several individuals, agencies and organisations have been pressuring for change.

As of today, these are apparently the proposed changes that, if implemented, will bring to an end Foreign Rescue in it’s current form.

1)Last week we received confirmation directly from the EC in Brussels that Eurotunnel will not become a BIP (Border Inspection Point) for the other species (dogs, cats and ferrets).
Meaning, should we exit with a no deal, road transport would stop on October 31st 2019. With a deal it would be December 2020 though the government could impose changes prior to the end of the transition period.

2) the Government are due to implement a new Regulation to stop commercial importers of street dogs from acting as rescue organisations and so outside the remit of the licensing regulations on selling dogs and cats. This will also mean that the local authority would have to agree to licence them.

This would effectively result in imports by air only and the importer having to be licensed to trade commercially in the sale of animals.

Further discussion is ongoing to try and implement changes that would result in closure of the current loopholes in the pet passport scheme.

The final development will help in raising further awareness of the issues but I can’t discuss that at the moment though we hope it will be the catalyst to enact swifter changes as having full vans of non compliant, non EU dogs now arriving, the threat to biosecurity has never been greater.
