Ann’s Canine Care – helping the galgos in need

Ann Marie Payne 400 26 7 2019
I have the utmost admiration for the volunteers in Spain who work tirelessly to help the abandoned hounds – never able to turn a blind eye to an appeal to help one, no matter the cost to them. Ann Maria Payne is just such a lady, please read this story and support her.

’26/7 2019 – It’s 4am and I’ve been here an hour trying to write this post after receiving this in messenger.

Hi Ann Marie, There is a man who has a 6-year-old gauge and they tell me they want to kill her. It has micro chip. Would you have room for her? or is it not possible? You tell me when you can. Thank you.

I want to reply to her and say ” Tell that bastard that he will be held accountable if he kills this dog, because it does have a chip” But the sad fact is that they are never held accountable because they have the ways and the means of making the dogs just disappear. They are utterly heartless. And given the fact that there is no protection for these Galgos as pets. What’s to stop them?

So I will say yes to this lady, she can come because I cannot have the fate of this dog’s life on my concience.

Knowing full well that I will struggle to find a place for her as I already have a place reserved for a Galga who, when they catch her is on the streets of Fuente de Piedra.

But I’m now at my utmost limit, I’m hitting the wall and, really struggling financially as it can take over a year for a Galgo to find a home, during which time they not only do they have to have blood tests, and treatment when necessary, spay/castration, regular tic and flea, and worming treatments, but also visits to the vets. Plus food.

The average galgo receives roughly 1 kilo of food per day which costs 50 cents which equates to 182,50 euros pa. Now x this by 5,6 or 7 and it works out at well over 1,000 euros pa per galgo. And to put this into perspective it’s like trying to find an extra 2-3 months rent/mortgage with a very limited income, and bear in mind, this is only for food. So please when I ask for help, it’s not for me, it’s for my rescue dogs. I’m not a big charity, or an organisation, just one person trying to make a difference to these dog’s lives.

Please help if you can.
