February 1st was Day of the Galgo. And rather than show you the awful photos of Galgos, and how they have died through torture and neglect, I’d rather concentrate on the present situation that effects me daily, along with other rescues, both large and small, and individuals trying to help.

Day of the Galgo is no different from any other day, but I’m so terribly sad because I received a message tonight about a Galgo living on the streets in the next village to me. It was from a young lady, and she wrote ” I am trying to help it, but nobody helps me” This is in Sierra de Yegas, close to Campillos, in deep hunting grounds. I sat there and cried because I am so full and, cannot take on another until some go. I’ve got to the point yet again!!! where I’m frightened to open messages in case there is another about a Galgo in need that I can’t open my door to.

There are so many of them and it’s a constant battle to make room to take another in. And also to be able to support them financially to prepare them for adoption. Tomorrow there is a nationwide demonstration in many regions of Spain to promote the banning of hunting with Galgos. If you see any of these posts please share and spread the word about their plight. Change is happening, but like most other things, it takes time. There’s one thing above all else that I’d like to see and, it is that the Galgos and other hunting breeds get the same rights that pets have.

Galgos are my world, they are so forgiving of our human failures, and they make wonderful pets. Please consider adopting one, if you can’t then maybe you could foster one short term, or donate towards their care.
