Save the Galgo – Stop the suffering

Start of hunting season in Spain

From Galgos 112

On August 10, the “hunting tooth in hand” period of rabbit begins in Andalucia. It’s a minor type of hunting in which dogs are used to track and capture pieces, without the use of firearms. The terror begins for the poor dogs that won’t stop until February.

We are noticing how the date is getting closer by the number of greyhounds and podencos that appear lying around: now is when they start to take them out of the zulus to prepare and test them. Every day there are new ones abandoned, they are the ones that aren’t strong or the ones that don’t serve them to hunt.

Recently a boy wrote to us asking for help for this greyhound, he had been abandoned for more than a week and finally he had managed to catch him, he took him to the local police to pass the reader and, as usual, he had no chip What was he doing with him? He couldn’t leave him back on the street and, due to his personal situation, he couldn’t take him to his foster home either. We’ve taken care of the greyhound and he’s already in residence. Now, near there, another one has appeared that we do not yet know what will happen to him. Of course we want to help but boarding has to be paid for, vet bills too.. and as the damn date gets closer there are more and more emails and calls asking for help, we don’t even want to think what happens next.

Foster homes are few and already occupied by recovering dogs. Adoptions this time of summer are few too, if adopted dogs don’t come out, no more can come in. What do we do?

If you’ve ever thought of helping: Do it!. And if you haven’t thought of it, plant it now and do it too!. You can help financially, fostering, adopting… take a walk on our website and look at the tab that says “HOW TO HELP” there are many options and you’ll surely be able to do something.

We, and most of all, will be very grateful. You will feel like a part and the star of making possible what is “an almost impossible mission”: to change the lives of these poor dogs.
