Heartworm is a life threatening health problem in dogs, if untreated, spread by mosqsuito bites. Treatment can be for months and means the dog must not move around very much or it stimulates the worm to move around.
Galga Tina at Galgos Rescue Almeria has tested positive for this terrible problem. Here she is at the vet being examined.
From Sandy at GRA. Our sweet Tina tested positive for Dirofilaria, heartworm. Heartworm is a serious and potentially fatal disease if it is not treated properly and closely monitored. Of course, we didn’t waste a single moment. Tina returned to the veterinarian for a thorough examination. Her heart was carefully checked, and another blood sample was taken. It was examined under a microscope to determine whether any heartworm larvae were still present, allowing her treatment plan to be tailored to her needs.
After the appointment, we returned to the rescue centre with a bag full of medication. Over the coming weeks, Tina will undergo an intensive course of antibiotics as part of her fight against heartworm. Only after this treatment can she safely receive her vaccinations.
Tina has already endured so much in her life. After bringing countless puppies into the world, this is the “reward” she receives in return… It is truly heartbreaking. But one thing is certain: Tina will not face this battle alone. We will stand by her side every step of the way until she is healthy again.
Will you help Tina? Every donation, no matter how small, helps cover the cost of her treatment and gives her the chance to enjoy the happy, healthy life she has always deserved. Together, we can give Tina the future she has been waiting for.
