I have had the date of 9th October 2013 on my calendar for months, ever since Sandra Baas of Asociacion Baase Galgo announced that this would be the date of the court case against the galguero in Toledo who hung his galgos. ‘Oh, I didn’t know I shouldn’t’ he claimed!!
‘October 9th, a court trial took place today at Juzgado n1 de lo Penal de Toledo for the man who murdered his two galgos by hanging. Two years ago, the corpses of the two young dogs (one was 22 months old, the other was 5 years old) were found in the Fuensalida, Toledo location. The dogs had been hung and killed.
This is Ky, who I recently met with the rest of the ACTIN/Animal Welfare Support Murcia Galgos Aysha, Rubio and Donna – who’s only a year old. They all have a tale to tell of cruelty and suffering at the hands of the galgueros but are now safe in foster and waiting for their forever homes. They’ve been waiting quite a long time, there must be someone out there who has space in their hearts and homes for these beautiful galgos.
Ky is black and white, Aysha is a stunning chocolate brown, Rubio is tan and Donna is in the bottom pix lying on the sofa! You can also see me below with little Podenca mum Bonny, also looking for a forever home, and their foster mom Sherlie. If you can’t adopt one, please consider sponsoring one – they all need to eat, why not sponsor a galgo for a month or more.
Please contact ACTIN if you wish to sponsor adopt one. admin@actin-spain.com
Regular readers know how I publicise the plight of the podencos in the Canary Islands. Sighthounds 2 Save is a Belgian association which helps the Irish greyhound, Spanish galgo and podencos from Tenerife and Lanzarote.
Don’t forget that the Spanish colonised parts of South America and there are galgos in Argentina. Here’s a link to the website of the rescue association.
