  • Holidays in Spain – not for galgos – pain and suffering is all they know

Kafir EDL Cristina 0110 300 Could you chew off your own arm or leg? Kafir tried to. Cristina tells his story.

KAFIR ( ex Blacki on internet forums ), male of 70 cm, 3-4 years and is that special galgo of endless sweetness.

Kafir comes from Mérida ( Badajoz ). He was abandoned, always looking for food and one day he appeared with a terrible wire around his hind leg. It was so tight that it created a very bad and deep wound up to the point that the leg began to gangrenate.

Kafir was in so much pain and was suffering so much that he himself began to bite himself up to the point that people saw him, saw that the leg was hanging only by a tendon.

  • Meet the Podencos – Ibizan Hounds – with SARA Lanzarote and Pro-Galgo Spain

Podenco lola-canarias1 250 Podencos (also known as Ibizan Hound) are another seriously abused Spanish hunting dog – and life is especially difficult for them on the Spanish Islands. I often mention the SARA Lanzarote shelter, which does amazing work, and Pro-Galgo work with a volunteer on Las Palmas.

Both organisations prepare their dogs for adoption abroad – as you can imagine, flights can be costly and the dogs have to be accompanied.

  • Scooby Medina, Spain – adopt a long term resident

I’ve received this update from Eva at Scooby Medina, following the appeal for people to adopt some of the dogs which have been in their shelters for over a year, some for much longer. Let’s keep the effort going!

    Hello everyone,

Many thanks for your responses to the previous email that was sent about long time Scooby dogs with no requests.

I am please to share that 5 dogs have already been reserved. Basu, Ciro, Elo, Moreno and Vagabundo. And this is all because of you who helped spread the word to find them a home or simply because you choose to take these dogs into your groups! Thank you!

  • Scooby Medina appeals – give these long term residents a chance – adopt a dog

An appeal from Scooby Medina for dogs which have been in their shelters for nearly 2 years, and no one wants them. There’s even a pedigree cocker spaniel! Please take time to read the email and details about the dogs, and help find them homes. Scooby have over 600 – yes 600 – dogs in their care!

    Hi Everyone,

Here is my regular “plea” / call for attention to long time Scooby dogs. This time is a little different, because these dogs are ones that I have not had any requests for and/or ones that arrived at Scooby in 2008 or earlier. Considering it’s almost 2010, we need to find these dogs a home as soon as possible. Some of them are older, some of them are younger – but one thing is the same for all of them, they have been here too long and we can’t forget about them.

  • Galga Cristal in Spain – update – looking for a home abroad

CRISTAL&FRIENDS 250Isabel from the ASPAP shelter has sent an update on Cristal’s condition.

‘Well, I’m sending you photos of Cristal with her 2 friends, Wican and Grison, just looking round the door. When we enter into the fenced area where they live, they go into their house and continue to look round the corner of their door, the 3 heads together. When we hold out our hand to stoke her, they smell us and lick our hands, but the 3 are the same in their fear.

  • 600 dogs at Scooby Medina – adopt one, send a donation

Scooby Medina appeal 0809 300News is coming in thick and fast, folks, even though it is the ‘holiday’ season.

Imagine having to look after 600 dogs. That is what they do at Scooby Medina, and the situation is pretty drastic. This message came from Eva.

‘I am writing you in hopes of reaching out to more people and spreading
the word that Scooby desperately needs help. At the moment, there are
over 600 dogs in the shelter. We are working on adding more dogs (and
cats) to the adoption pages, but at the moment there are still many
available on the site that have been waiting for so long. Many are
from the Seville rescue from earlier this year and even some from the
2007 rescue. We have plenty of mix dogs too.
