Interesting visit to the vet today for Carmela
There will be a lack of posts this weekend, my daughter is coming out to stay, I haven’t seen her for 11 months, and so shan’t be sitting at the computer during her short time with me. That doesn’t mean there aren’t loads of appeals coming in – dogs rescued, dogs stolen – yes, the gitanos are after the galgos to sell to the hunters – refuges struggling.
Had an interesting visit to the vet today with my galga Carmela.

warning – dog thieves loose in the English Midlands – and watch your lurchers!
A couple of days ago I read an appeal about dogs free to a good home’. I’ve never believed an animal should be given free to a good home – if you can’t keep it, take it to a shelter. The particular dog in question ended up used as live bait to train fighting dogs – naturally it was killed. Here’s a frightening warning on the same subject.

Educating the younger generation – Spanish associations at work.
Educating the younger generations is one of the ways of trying to change the attitude of the spanish towards animal care – that cruelty to animals is not acceptable. Several associations work towards this end, DDEVIDA and Pro-Galgo to name just two. A third one is 112carlotagalgos. You can read more about their visit to a local school on this link. Read the latest news about Greta longnose, a beautiful galga which we fostered for 4 months before she travelled to her forever home.

A bird’s eye view on Spain, animals and owners!
I’ve received this thought-provoking article on a view of life in Spain at the moment.
Spain is a country which is on now its knees. It’s gone from dictatorship, to good presidency and bringing a country up on form and being recognised as a good place to be. From there, the previous government to the current one (voted in December 2011) brought bad practices into its own when they took over. The country became run down, the people suffer, but as always, the politicians walk away with clean hands and a tidy pension until death. To compound the negative results of that government’s actions, Spain was hit with the Global crisis.
