  • Floods in Cordoba – Nightmare for animal refuges!

Villa del Rio 4 250 21 05 2011 Message from Sandra Baas of Baas Galgo (website offline at the moment due to a bloody hacker!)

    Dear Friends

I never thought that I would have to write to you in this way, but we are so desperate and we so badly need your help; that we have no other choice.

Last Wednesday, May 18th, a terrible flood completely destroyed the BaasGalgo shelter in Villa del Rio in southern Spain. Consequently, 100 Galgos who were in the refuge have been left without anywhere to live. All the facilities have been destroyed by the flooding. The situation is extremely serious. We can without exaggeration say that we lost absolutely everything!

  • Cordoba galga & puppies living under a motorway – help needed

Cordoba galga w puppies 2 250 El Arca de Noe 16 05 2011 This appeal has come in from El Arca de Noe in Cordoba, they don’t have anywhere to put this galga and her puppies. Here’s the story, can anyone help?

This case is very urgent and please help! This is a mama galga with several puppies, she delivered along a highway! There is little food so a villager in a neighborhood has managed to put a bit down. But Mommy has to go find more food, and puppies are left, and now 4 of them who crossed the road to follow her have been hit and killed.

  • Galgo Bracken – my latest foster dog, looking for his forever family

Bracken close up 250 This beautiful boy is Bracken. He was rescued earlier this year, waiting outside a supermarket with a badly injured front leg – the bone was sticking out. Even though he must have been in awful pain, he was still gentle and affectionate to those who took him in their loving care and back to a place of safety. The refuge vet operated on him and he was placed in foster car whilst his injury healed.

A couple of weeks ago he came to join my canine family at my home in France. He had been reserved by a lady in the UK but circumstances have changed and she can no longer take him. So he is now looking again for his forever home.

  • Young Cadiz Galgo and Toledo Galga seek forever families

Cadiz galgo 250 05 2011 More galgos needing help. This beautiful boy in Cadiz was rescued from the road luckily before being injured. This is what his rescuer says about him.

‘I met this galgo on Saturday night coming home, about 12 o’clock at night on the highway to San Fernando to Port Royal. The night was very bad, didn’t stop raining and I saw him on the shoulder. I stopped quickly and the poor man came running towards me moving his tail. At that moment I knew I could not leave it there.

This is an extension of the campaign to stop Irish greyhounds being sent to China. I have no doubt that readers in Oz will have some comments.

Urgent- please write to the Australian Prime Minster the Hon Julia Gillard MP to stop greyhounds being exported to the Macau track where they live in appalling conditions most of which are killed at the end of their racing days! • Galga, rescued from a well, dumped in a killing station, sent across Spain

Galga thrown in well 250 2 10 05 2011 You all know how much I praise the amazing volunteers in Spain who work tirelessly, often at the expense of their own families, their own health…..to save the abandoned galgos and podencos – plus all the other dogs and cats. But sometimes I wonder just why someone makes a decision which seems ludicrous……

This poor galga was rescued by the police from a well, then dumped in a killing station. A local association stepped in and offered to take her…..but instead she is being sent across Spain to Asturias! In this condition. Will she survive or will the journey and stress kill her?

UPDATE – she is being taken to the Occidente Astur protectora in Asturias and Pro-Galgo will deal with any adoption.

  • Baas Galgo website – subject to an antagonistic attack? Join the fight for right!

I’ve just tried to get onto the Baas Galgo website and been asked for a username and password. I knew this was odd, so emailed Sandra. She confirmed her website has been subject to a Cyber attack and it is being rectified. Is this someone trying to stop her work….those in Spain who object to the work of the volunteers will sometimes stop at nothing!
