Message from Sandra Baas of Baas Galgo (website offline at the moment due to a bloody hacker!)
Dear Friends
I never thought that I would have to write to you in this way, but we are so desperate and we so badly need your help; that we have no other choice.
Last Wednesday, May 18th, a terrible flood completely destroyed the BaasGalgo shelter in Villa del Rio in southern Spain. Consequently, 100 Galgos who were in the refuge have been left without anywhere to live. All the facilities have been destroyed by the flooding. The situation is extremely serious. We can without exaggeration say that we lost absolutely everything!
A group of volunteers is trying to put the dogs in safe houses and recover whatever can be salvaged but the facilities have suffered so much that it will be virtually impossible to recuperate anything. Besides the facilities, we have lost our stock of medicine, equipment, food, blankets, coats……….in short – everything!
The disaster means that all the hard work that BaasGalgo has achieved in recent years has been washed away with the floods.
It’s hard to say now because we are all so shocked and disheartened by this disaster – but we must keep fighting. Perhaps with your help we would have the possibility to begin to rebuild the facilities, and thus be able to give 100 Galgos somewhere to live. At the moment we have to admit that it’s almost impossible to imagine the refuge being rebuilt but with your help we will try. We will keep you all updated as to our progress.
Any and all help is welcome. Please contact us at: info@baasgalgo.com.

Hi
New Dawn Animal Welfare in the UK enquired about a Paypal address that could be used for donations as International bank charges are so high and Sandra Baas has provided the following:
prensa@baasgalgo.com
She also said their website had been taken off air 2 weeks ago by a hacker, so they are not able to use this forum to alert people of what has happened.

Thanks, Suzie, will post the email address in a

so sad to see these photos
when so many people try so hard to help the galgo nature takes things in it its hands to destroy all this hard work
Their paypal is working as I donated yesterday
They are also having an on line auction to raise money to help repaire the damage

Thanks, Toni, and to everyone else who has
donated. For me its all about the dogs. Buts let not forget that
this shelter is owned by a galguero, breeder of galgos, sells to hunters, vice
president of the hunting federation in the region……someone in a position to
stop the annual massacre and abandonment of galgos. Why doesnt he stop
it?! Why doesnt he put up the money.

I did not know the shelter is owned by a galguero
i did wonder why there were so many puppy,s there that explaines it now
As you say why does,nt he put up the money
and he must know how many galgos are slaughtered every year he is in one dam fine place to stop it
Is it just money talks or he just wants to stay in a place of power hateful man
But as you say at the end of the day it is all about the dogs
Toni
Thanks Beryl for the explanation about the owner of this shelter. Bartholo Ramirez has a lot of money and Baas Galgo is only renting some of those kennels as we all know.
Where are the pictures of the dead puppies? Maybe it is terrible to see but then the people can see it with there own eyes.Where are the pictures of the destroyed medication? Everything is dirty that’s terrible. There is no damage at the kennels of the dogs
The dirt can easily removed with water, its a good thing that there are many people helping now.
100 Galgos left without a place to live? All the facilities have been destroyed by the flooding? Without exaggerating to say that absolutely everything is lost? Impossible to recuperate anything?
The last pictures show a complete and undestroyed shelter where the most dogs are clean again and with a dry place to rest, as the comment with the foto´s says. Who is exaggerating??????????? Poor dogs!
Goodness so many conflicting stories. Does anyone know the total truth about this? Regardless of who owns the shelter and what we may think about him, if these dogs are in the care of Baas Galgo who are only renting the premises, our concern should be with helping the dogs that are suffering that are under Baas Galgo’s care. The politics/helpfullness/horribleness of the owner is immaterial at the moment. We need to help the dogs.

Absolutely, it is about helping the dogs.
Which is why I posted the story.
But one needs to bear in mind that the owner is a
wealthy man.
