  • Animales Rioja – land needed which doesn’t flood – please sign appeal.

    You will have read below about Animales Rioja having to move their 70+ dogs out of their rescue area because of severe flooding and non-stop rain. Their dogs are all fostered and boarded out in kennels, which they have to pay for. They are asking their local Town Council for help with a new piece of ground. Please sign this petition and share it as widely as possible for them.

    I just signed the petition “Ayuntamiento de Logroño: Cesion de terreno para crear un refugio para Animales Rioja” Our goal is to reach 15,000 signatures and we need more support. You can read more and sign the petition here

  • Cuenca Dog Pound – Urgent appeal – 100 dogs need saving

    Urgent appeal to save the lives of 100 dogs. Oscar writes from Cuenca;

    ‘Milagros from the Cuenca Dog Pound just informed me that the Inspection has been at the pound and that they “counted” 100 dogs too many. Therefore it is extremely urgent to get 100 (ONE HUNDRED) dogs out of there. Please could you notify ANY dog shelters, fosterplaces, whomever. The dogs are chipped, vacunated against rabies and are FREE OF CHARGE, they do not cost anything = 0.00 € !!
    The only thing to pay for is the transport wherever. Please help me to spread this awful news around. THANKS

  • Floods in Cordoba – Nightmare for animal refuges!

    Dear Friends

    I never thought that I would have to write to you in this way, but we are so desperate and we so badly need your help; that we have no other choice.

    Last Wednesday, May 18th, a terrible flood completely destroyed the BaasGalgo shelter in Villa del Rio in southern Spain. Consequently, 100 Galgos who were in the refuge have been left without anywhere to live. All the facilities have been destroyed by the flooding. The situation is extremely serious. We can without exaggeration say that we lost absolutely everything!

  • Shelter in Seville closing, anyone room for these dogs?

    This shelter in Seville is due to close and the dogs will be taken to the perrera. Can anyone take any of the dogs – I see there is a podenco in there, and a cocker spaniel……

  • Seville, galgos in terrible conditions – please help

    Seville 2 01 2011 gypsies Please can any associations help this brave lady? Here’s the appeal I received.

    CAN YOU HELP SAVE THESE GALGOS, PLEASE?

    These galgos are in a shanty town in Sevilla. For two years Inmaculada has been rehoming them little by little. She doesn’t have photos of them all as the people become very angry and won’t allow her in the place. There were eight females, seven males and six mixed breed.

  • 15 souls on death row in Jerez, Cadiz – no winter sun holiday in Spain for them

    Jerez galgos 1 Vera 07 12 2010 250 Last week 15 galgos were saved from death row in the Jerez killing station, Cadiz. As soon as they had been removed, another 15 arrived, dumped by the brave courageous hunters (sarcasm!). Oh, these hunters think they are such BIG men! They are not men, they are not human, they are worse than scumbags, a cockroach I would squash beneath my shoe!

    Who is going to save these poor deserving terrified confused souls? 9 males, 6 females. All the shelters are collapsing under the mass abandonment this year. How many more can be saved?

  • El Paraiso Galgos – please help!

    The news is bad…..these 14 galgos will be euthanaised any day now! The associations who were supposed to be taking some haven’t turned up! Charl del Rio is heading there now to collect a couple but she can’t take more – can’t anyone out there help. I know the refuges and shelters are full to bursting, but please can’t someone get the galgos out? And I know, there will be dozens of other needy dogs in there, on death row. But on GN it’s the galgos and podencos we want to save. Other associations are there to take care of rescuing other breeds. And my heart bleeds for all the mixed breed dogs who don’t stand any chance of being saved.

    I now know that 8 of these galgos have been rescued from being killed, unconfirmed that possibly all of them have been.
