  • Strong words from a French galgo campaigner

At the beginning of May, Agir-pour-les-galgos, the blog of L N Verdier, wrote to the Spanish Federation of galgueros which organised the march in Madrid on lst March 2008, requesting that their site be added, on the fecaza site, to the list of those organisations which disapproved of the purpose of the march – supporting the use of galgos for hunting.

This is a translation of the letter on the blog of L N Verdier.

Please write to rfec@fecaza.com website http://www.fecaza.com/ and protest about the use of galgos for hunting in Spain.

  • Spanish holiday in mind? Protest in Badajoz!

Yet another tale of the Spanish authorities not accepting responsibility for dealing with abandoned dogs. It’s about time they enforced – with a vengeance – the law which exists to protect dogs and other domestic animals. It’s time for the Spanish to stop hiding the disgraceful situation of the result of uncontrolled breeding of dogs and cats, cavalier abandonment of dogs and cats, the unnecessary cruelty and suffering it causes – time Spain woke up to realize that there are thousands of people around the world watching them…………

Read the story of Mariangeles Salpico – sign the petition to stop the closure of yet another refuge – a sanctuary for these animals from the hell of life in Spain!

  • Greyhound Awareness Week – 24-31 May 2008

Greyhound Awareness Week gives an opportunity for all those concerned about the plight of greyhounds to educate the public about the mass slaughter of dogs caused by the greyhound racing industry.

With a large enough boycott by ordinary people, the industry can be brought to its knees and the suffering and untimely death of thousands of greyhounds prevented.

Here’s a list of events organised by Greyhound Action to commemorate this week.

  • Australia, Korea, Vietnam, China – stop the promotion of greyhound racing

Greyhound Action have announced that the UK flagship greyhound racing stadium, Walthamstow Stadium, has now closed down. But there are 29 more stadiums in the UK which are still operating on.

Whilst they herald this as a success, and it is a great success, what concerns me is that the more stadiums in the UK which close down, the more stadiums will open in Australia, Korea and China – and we can only begin to imagine the abuse and suffering in store for the greyhounds exported to these countries. It is quite likely that Spanish galgos will also end up there too.

They need thousands more signature. Go on line now and sign up for the on-line petitions against greyhound racing in these countries at http://www.greyhoundaction.org.uk/igreyhound.html

  • Translation of letter from the Office of the Spanish Prime Minister

Pat Getz, of the Greyhound Protection League USA, has kindly sent in this translation of the letter I received from the office of the Spanish Prime Minister.

She says ‘A friend of mine who speaks Spanish and is married to someone who speaks Spanish as his native language was kind enough to do this translation. Kristin is very busy with two small children and many, many activities, but is a great animal lover. I thank her for her efforts.’

I thank Pat for her efforts too, and reprint the translation as sent to me.
