  • Greyhound Rescue Holland – helping the Spanish galgos

Greyhound Rescue Holland-logo 400Greyhound Rescue Holland does tremendous work supporting Spanish shelters by rehoming rescued galgos in Holland and Belgium. They’ve just added 13 galgos from Galgos del Sur to their website, all looking for forever homes Here’s a message from GRH to everyone who supports them.

    THOUSAND THANKS TO OUR DONATORS

Greyhounds Rescue Holland plans to put the fate of the galgoes through the politics (including, together with Animals Today and Dutch Galgo Lobby), like last year’s protest march to the Spanish embassy and this year a visit to the European Parliament.

In addition, we support a number of Spanish shelters that save dogs (getting out of the street, floating from dodging stations, taking away from hunters), taking care of, providing the most necessary medical care, weighting and for adoption.

For the adoptions we are mediating and know a lot of dogs who have found a new home. Great how many people like to give these special dogs a nice home.

  • The overwhelming problem of abandoned dogs in Spain – what to do when people won’t neuter?

All countries suffer from abandoned dogs – irresponsible people who refuse to have their animals neutered and leave it for caring animal lovers to pick up the pieces. The problem for the hunting dogs of Spain especially is overwhelming and it’s getting worse, no matter how hard the rescue associations and shelters try. It’s also getting much harder to home all the dogs…again because many European countries have their own abandoned dog problem.

Here is an article from Scooby which highlights the problem the refuges face. You may not agree with all its contents but all I would say is – don’t criticise if you don’t live with the problem they have.

  • Rescued in Spain, adopted in Germany, abandoned in Germany!

Germany galga 400 15 7 2017Be careful, galgo rescue associations, where you send your dogs to forever homes. This lovely Galga was found in Germany. She is blind in one eye, chipped but not registered. Apparently, per chip, she came from Madrid. Per the comments in the original post, the owner was located but no longer wants her. She is now with the Tierschutzverein Kindsbach, so safe. It’s so frustrating that after she should have gone to the sweet life she was let down again.

  • Cocaine abuse in greyhound racing in the USA!

The abuse of greyhounds in racing never ceases…carried out by those the dogs trust…and who only care about if they make money. Doping is endemic, whatever country greyhound racing happens. In the USA they should know better! Please sign this petition, and share.

  • Spain – Making an Official Complaint about animal abuse or abandonment

    Guardia C@ivil starved galga 400 25 2 2017From Mo Swatek, founder of Pro-galgo International

PLEASE SHARE: HOW TO MAKE AN OFFICIL COMPLAINT FOR ANIMAL ABUSE OR ABANDONMENT IN SPAIN
    MO SWATEK·FRIDAY, 30 JUNE 2017

Due to the complete denial by the authorities (politicians of all levels) of the massive existence of animal abuse in Spain, our only possibility to make a difference is to report ALL and each of the cases that we see.

Unfortunately, the vast majority of cases are reported exclusively on the internet/social media but not to the authorities like the Spanish animal welfare police SEPRONA or directly to court, and the result is obvious. As nobody reports, the official statistics don’t include any of the severe cases all of us find nearly daily. Neither are all the dogs that shelters without subsidies and private people collect daily in the Spanish streets considered in official statistics.
