  • Ann’s Canine Care – shelter needs help to build a quarantine kennel

    Ann Marie Payne 400 16 9 2018
I’ve featured some of Ann Marie Payne’s poems on my blogs. Another volunteer in Spain saving and rehoming the unwanted hounds, including a podenca mum and her 5 pups living in a cave, which appeal I featured on Podenco Post. Now Ann needs help herself. She explains why below

‘Last year we were forced out of our premises, conned out of €1,800 and were left with nowhere to go. We did a fund raise and fortunately many people donated and helped us to move to where we are now, and at first it seemed like paradise. We had a wonderful summer and all the dogs were happy. But then came the winter, which was the worst in 10 years for rainfall. The kennels were flooding every day because there was nowhere for the rain to drain away. Every day I had to brush the water into buckets and then carry them outside and empty them on to the street. It was a total nightmare.

  • Support the Purple Poppy Campaign

    Purple-Poppy-Logo-2018-Anniversary 400
The first Murphy’s Army Purple Poppy Campaign was launched in 2016 to encourage members of the public to come together to pay tribute to the many animals lost in Service, and to those who Serve us today.

Our research had shown that although the traditional red poppy was well known, the significance of the purple poppy – to remember the animals – was less so. Hopefully our efforts over the years have changed that as many more purple poppies are now being worn with pride.

In this very special anniversary year – 100 years since the guns fell silent on the Western Front and the end of the First World War – let’s make our 2018 Purple Poppy Campaign an even greater success.

Please join with us and together let’s ensure that the animals who lost their lives during this conflict, those lost in Service since, and those who serve us today, are not forgotten but forever remembered alongside their human counterparts.

  • Ann’s Canine Care – two more galgos saved from the pound

Anns Canine Care Duke and Oliver 400 8 2018
Ann’s Canine Care in Malaga has recently rescued these two galgos, now named Duke and Oliver. It’s not just a case of a volunteer turning up at the pound, paying the fee and getting the dog. Here Ann says thank you to the team of people who helped her.

‘A lot of special people to say thank you to today. And because of them Duke and Oliver are out of the pound and, into the next stage of finding their forever homes. Thank you Heidi Goll, Beate Zwickenpflug for arranging their release, and to all the Godmothers for supporting them. Cristina Mora Carballo for organising the transport for them, and to Dori Barragán and her husband for taking me to the pound to release them and bringing us all back home. The boys have settled in nicely, and will update more about their personalities in a few days when I know more. A great day for the Galgos’

  • Help needed for Pepi’s dogs

Corley one leg not grown properly 400 9 2016
Regular readers will know that over several years I have been publicising and appealing for help for the dogs in Pepis Refuge in Pedrera, Seville. Rachael Lepage is an amazing young woman living in the UK who has worked tirelessly to find forever homes for the dogs. Leash of Life is her association and here is her appeal, I hope you will support her.

‘Leash of Life need your help! As some of you may know, a few months ago the owner of Pepi’s fell very ill suddenly and we were contacted asking if we could take the remaining dogs as a matter of urgency. Which we did. A Spanish rescue very kindly found kennel and refuge space for us im the Malaga province and have spent many hours checking on them and doing vet runs etc.

So far they have cost us thousands in vets, kennel and food bills and a handful of them are still in Spain due to us not having the fosters or the funds to bring them over to the UK. We also cannot book them to the kennels we usually use because our bill is already astronomical. The rescue that helped us with them now need them gone ASAP as they are blocking spaces they desperately need for their own dogs. Given how good they have been to us, we feel awful using resources they desperately need.
