  • The Fate awaiting British greyhounds sent to China

My passion for greyhounds started back in 1994 when a stray greyhound in poor condition turned up at our Suffolk farmhouse. In those days no one adopted greyhounds. Moving to France I discovered the situation for the Spanish Greyhound (galgos) and started my long fight to publicise their plight and help the rescue associations. So it’s easy to forget that the Greyhound Board of Great Britain (nothing Great about Britain now!) ignores the plight of unwanted greyhounds transported to a life of hell in China! Would you believe they eat greyhounds in China>!

So for a change from galgos, I’m publishing this latest report from Kerry Elliman who originally founded Greyhound Protection UK which developed into Candi Hound Rescue International. She has been rescuing British greyhounds in China for several years and this is her latest report, from 25/11/2024.

A hunter was going to slaughter this galga because she fractured a leg whilst hunting and so he decided to sacrifice it so as not to spend money. She has been rescued by Fundacion Animal Rescue of Madrid and has a fracture of the pelvis and radio and the operation exceeds €1500. She has been named Clara and she needs emergency surgery at the Veterinary Hospital. Will you help Clara with her operation With €10, €20, or whatever you can each, we can change Clara’s life.

  • Protectora Scooby – a very sick galga needs help

    Scooby sick galga 400 10 2024
we have to tell you a case that we need your help.

We recently picked up in Palencia a galguita tied near our facilities, some soulless had abandoned it.
She’s about 4 years old, she had many wounds and we think she was stabbed because she’s very shy, but very good.

Well when taking her to our veterinary hospital for a checkup, our beloved vet who had more problems, ran several tests and noticed something in her blood. After conducting a test we got the bad surprise that Ehrlichia and Leishmania has. We’ve let her in for a few days while she gets cures and treatment for both illnesses. She’s been bathed with a special shampoo and she’s slowly recovering.

  • Valencia Floods – SOS Podencos update

    SOS Podencos 400
From SOS Podencos – at one point the water was waste deep.

    31/10/2024
Most of our dogs are out of the kennel and placed into temporary foster homes. The two remaining are inside the house that is in the kennel, and they will leave today.
There are still other dogs in the kennel that aren’t ours, but it seems the legal owners don’t want them to go into foster homes..

Now is the time to clean, fix and rebuild!
If you can come help, it will be appreciated.
Here is a video of the state of the kennel. It’s full of mud and water. The fences are broken, ripped from the ground. All the dog food is gone. The dog beds are gone or broken.

  • SOS Podencos shelter flooded out

    Floods appeal for shelter 450 10 2024
    From SOS Podencos

Edu, the kennel owner, is alive and seems physically well but he is in shock. Nobody rescued him even if the rescue services were contacted several times for almost 12 hours. They were collapsed. So many people are trapped or missing, so only one person and dogs weren’t the priority.

Most roads are still closed but his son could go to the road near the kennel that is higher and throw him food over the fence. Some dogs were barking. We don’t know the extent of the damages and the animal deaths.

  • Devastating floods in Malaga province – shelters flooded out!

    Galgos en Familia flooding 400
Horrendous flooding in Malaga Province with many shelters flooded out. On shelter which SS Podencos works with reports the flooding is above knee height making it difficult to open kennels doors. Keep these shelters in your pravers that every animals is rescued and safe.

Dear friends of the Galgos and Podencos, this morning the heavy rains in Andalucia caused the dreaded flooding of the shelter! The water rose and entered the inside kennels and a great effort by the volunteers saved 40 galgos, podencos and 2 mastines. The dogs were frantically moved to safer ground as the shelter is near the river bed. The dogs went into foster homes and to the residencies we use for the Male Galgo Project. They are all safe. Praying the rain lets up soon! The damage will be evaluated when they can go back in but for sure loss of their washing machine and dryer, and possibly stored food, medicines etc as well.

They may even need rental equipment for cleaning purposes.

We are asking for donations for this emergency situation!
