  • Seville & Huelva – galgas on the streets – in danger…

Seville 250 11 2012Abandoned galgos and podencos everywhere, every year now it gets worse – there are thousands in the perreras already, due to be killed – or the galgueros say to volunteers, ‘take this dog or I will kill it’. How do the volunteers cope?!

Here is a young galga abandoned in Seville province, in danger on the streets – or becoming pregnant! Contact ..CONTACT GEM…SEVILLE 679106878… THANK YOU!

    And this beauty too.

She’s in a village in Huelva, she’s been there all summer. She had puppies which have disappeared – stolen, killed, who knows. She was very fearful but a person in the village has been feeding her and now it would be possible to catch her. But there is no where for her to go.

  • Too late for one – but 4 more lives saved from the streets of Sevilla

Pro Galgo 4 dogs Seville 250 11 2012Mo Swatek of Pro-Galgo has sent the following appeal for help to pay vet bills for 4 dogs rescued off the streets of a village in Sevilla. They were too late to save one galga, with pneumonia and parvovirus, but the other galga, two podencos and a bodguero (like a Jack Russell) have been saved. You can read all about it here. You will find details of how to donate at the end of the story.

  • Cordoba galga used as bait in dog fights – fighting for her life

Readers of my book will not be unfamiliar with the knowledge that calm, gentle galgos are used as bait for dog fighting. Here is the story just in of one poor galgo. The photos are horrendous, the injuries are horrendous. I am posting the story straight off at translated by Bing. I am only posting one photo. Those of you who are on Facebook and with to read more, go to Save the Galgo.

    The story.

  • Cordoba and Toledo – bad news for the galgos

There is very bad news and the future looks bleak for the galgos and podencos of Cordoba and Toledo. Asociacion Baas Galgo was given notice to leave the Villa del Rio kennels at Cordoba at the beginning of November, and they have been unsuccessful in purchasing land in Toledo to build a shelter. The dogs in their care have either been found homes across Europe or are with other associations and in kennels. Sandra will continue to work on behalf of the galgos from her new base in the US.

  • Portugal – Galga Estrela – update

Saturday – Ines says ‘Today Estrela has shown clear signs of improvement; she ate a whole kilo of beef liver, and was bouncing around Teresa like a puppy. Hopefully it shouldn’t be much longer until she leaves that death hole she is staying in.’ Fingers crossed. Thank you everyone donating to her food and that of the other galga moms and puppies.

  • Update on Miel/Honey – galga left for dead…

The Spanish volunteers and vets work miracles, that is for sure. And the galgos will fight for life to beat the bastards who would beat them to death. Look here at Honey playing in the garden with friends (she’s in the purple coat). One month ago she couldn’t even move a paw. A miracle indeed! (Sorry, only available on Facebook at the moment – I’ve asked for it to be put on YouTube)

  • Latest news on galga Estrela – fighting the odds in Portugal

Portugal Estrella 250 11.11.2012You will be upset to learn that Estrela, the Portuguese galga owned by an alcoholic, is still hanging onto life in horrendous conditions, suffering from pneumonia, but Teresa and Ines are able to feed her the high protein diet paid for by donations, and to feed her surviving puppies. They are still hoping to rescue the galga and save her.
